Dear Parents,

I have enjoyed reading your family reflections and kindness projects for our school-wide "Footprints of Kindness" activity.  They are a wonderful testament to the kind and generous spirit of your individual families and of our St. Brigid family. The footprints are displayed in the main hallway as a means of inspiration and future ideas for all of us.  (The footprints were due today, but we will take them tomorrow if you forgot to send it in today.)

Thank you for participating in this project and the next family discipleship project will be announced soon.

Speaker Series: Laura Lewis - Nov 13
St. Brigid will be hosting speaker Laura Lewis, M.A., L.P.C.C., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 13 in Hendricks Hall. See below for more information.

Conflict Management, Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking Skills and Behaviors: Parents' Role as Partners

Parents are disciples that have an important opportunity to role model conflict management, critical thinking, and analytical skills and behaviors for their children. Cultivating an attitude of trust and teamwork with the school is essential to ensuring students' success and enhancing the school climate for all. Learn the impact of rescuing children from conflict, and the positive results of using inclusive language, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, and promoting diversity in the classroom. Parents will learn a step by step process for voicing their concerns, fears and insights, and how to role model effective assertive communication.

About the Speaker: Laura Lewis, M.A., L.P.C.C.
Laura J. Lewis is an individual and group student counselor at Capital University and also owns a private practice, GLA Counseling in Upper Arlington. Spending over twelve years as a church youth minister and four years as the diocesan youth ministry program coordinator for the Catholic Diocese of Columbus, Laura has extensive experience working with and caring for young people in parishes and schools. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and theology from Ohio Dominican University and a master's degree in counselor education from The Ohio State University.

St. Brigid Disciples on a Journey toward Healthy Living

In conjunction with this year's school theme, "Disciples on a Journey," students will take steps on a journey to healthy living. We are initiating a recess walking program. Students wanting to participate will be given pedometers to wear during recess. The students will walk with a teacher/parent and at the end of recess the total steps will be recorded. Our goal is to make it to the Grand Canyon as a school. The Grand Canyon is one of God's great creations and is 1,868 miles away. Class totals will be recorded weekly and tracked on a US map. In addition, homerooms can pick their own destination to travel to. Individual students will be given necklaces and be able to collect feet charms per milestones such as 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 miles. We are excited to see how far we make it and to give our students an opportunity to stay active!  There is a board of the US map along with class totals displayed in the school cafeteria.

Barn Bash was a Smash!

850 people attended and had a great time at Barn Bash on Saturday. The weather was great and there were many fun games and outdoor activities for the students, including zip lines, tunnel slides, pumpkin jump, hay bale climbing, hay rides, go karts, a bonfire, goat petting and feeding, face painting, and lots of food!  A special thanks to all of the adult volunteers who made the event run smoothly and the 7th and 8th grade student volunteers who did a wonderful job as DJs and face painters!  We hope to see you all next October for Barn Bash 2015!

Parent Like a Champion Today

By 2018-2019, all parents will need to take the training prior to their child's participation in the DRA programs. The diocese has established a "phasing in period" in an attempt to offer this class to all parents of diocesan sports starting with this year's 4th grade parents (2014-2015). Although this year's 4th grade parents have until July 2015 to complete the training, next year's 4th and 5th grade parents (2015 -2016 academic year) will need to complete the training before their child can participate in DRA sports programs.

There will be a session offered Tuesday, December 2 at 6 p.m. in Hendricks HallTo sign up to attend, click here.

Wolfhound Girls Tennis Team Completes Season with 15-1 Record

Congratulations to the St. Brigid Girls Tennis Team for an unbelievable season!  The girls finished the season with a 15-1 record, including a big win over Columbus School for Girls in the final match of the season.  St. Brigid's only loss was to CSG earlier in the season, so the win over CSG in the last match was particularly sweet.

The tennis team was led by a very talented group of 8th graders:  Emily Hohlefelder, Samantha Vogel, Elisa Magalang, Jacqueline McCully, Jenna Mar, Lauren Markert, Nicole Funge, Clare Pavell and Regan Abahazie.  Good luck girls in your high school tennis careers.

Players from the 7th and 6th grades included:  Abbey Giesler, Margaret Baur, Layne Geswein, Jamie Coss, Ella Myers, Olivia Keiner, Claire Hohlefelder, Isabelle Seikel, Caitlin Spyra, Emma Carlin, and Ella Fortkamp.

Special thanks to the team's coaching and administrative staff for all of their hard work this season:  Laura Vogel (Administrative Coordinator), Mimi Geswein (Head Coach), and Kathy Magalang (Assistant Coach).
