Dear Parents,

Thank you to our Home and School  Association and in particular event chairs, Susan Mangold and Jen Lynch for sponsoring and organizing the upcoming Barn Bash event.  Over 800 adults and children will be enjoying a beautiful autumn evening and lots of fall fun at this annual family party on Friday, October 21st.

As first quarter comes to an end on October 27th,  Please keep in mind that both parents and teachers are encouraged to initiate communication any time during the year if there is a student concern.  We believe that it is better to address a student concern or clarify a situation in a timely manner rather than wait for a scheduled conference time. You may contact teachers via email or leave a phone message in the school office at 718-5825.  Faculty emails can be found on our website at  http://www.stbrigidofkildare.com/our-faculty/

October is the month of the holy rosary.  This is a great time to reevaluate the place the rosary has in our lives.  You may want to consider taking a few minutes each day to pray a decade of the rosary for any of your families special intentions.

Sincerely,

Kathy O'Reilly

Living Our School Theme:
Families of Disciples: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

For the past 6 years, I have helped to host Hunt for Hope.  Hunt for Hope is a local scavenger hunt that helps to raise money and awareness for inflammatory breast cancer (IBC).  This is the cancer that took my best friend and colleague, Lori, at 36 years old.  She was diagnosed at 32 years old.  God has called me to serve and continue to honor Lori's legacy of philanthropy.  It is truly amazing how such a small event impacts so many people in a positive way.  With this event, I have seen children sell lemonade, friends and family network and educate other women about the signs and symptoms of IBC and businesses donate money, gift cards, and food.  I find it so important to have my boys witness such an event first hand...it shows people coming together and how they too can make a difference.  This year, Evan worked the Hunt by being Waldo.  Teams received extra points if they found "Where's Waldo?"  The most touching moment in my 6 years of this event was my son, Evan's wish to not accept birthday presents, but donations for his 10th birthday.  Evan alone raised $1200 last year.  I feel that exposing kids to service projects allows them to fulfill their call to service and truly be a positive disciple in the community.  I am truly thankful to all the families that came together to support and volunteer for this beautiful cause.

Volunteers Needed for Fall Garden Clean Up
We've been so blessed to enjoy a beautiful school garden all summer! Maybe you even had the pleasure of eating some tomatoes or peppers with one of your meals. As the season changes, we need to start getting ready for winter and planning for the next garden season. We have several jobs that need to be done before winter sets in. We need volunteers to: repot flowers/herbs; harvest sweet potatoes; clean out annual plants; fertilize; clean up Dahlias; and begin construction on the butterfly garden.

Clean up days are Saturday  October 22nd and Sunday October 23rd from 10am to 2pm. Students 5th grade and up can volunteer without an adult, younger students will need an adult with them. This is a great opportunity for service hours. Adults interested in volunteering with their kids need to have Protecting God's Children and a background check in place. Please bring any empty pots you would like to donate for use for replanting to the Garden or any other garden items you may want to donate. We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to Lowe's in Dublin for their generous donations and sponsorship!
