Conflict & Adversity: The Parent's Role

Conflict and adversity are sure to confront all students at some point in their educational experience. So how does a parent respond?

Do you ever wonder:

  • When and how much should you intervene and how much should you let your children solve on their own?
  • What limits and boundaries should you set for your children?
  • When and how do you voice your concerns to the school?
  • How can you help enhance the school climate for your children?

Parents will learn how to model and develop conflict management, critical thinking and analytic skills and behaviors for their children. The presentation will delve into how parents can use their children's adversity to role model problem-solving and assertive communication skills that will improve their relationship with their children.

2014 - 2015 Parent Survey

All parents, please take a few minutes to complete our annual parent survey. These responses are important to us as we continually analyze and evaluate our school's performance.

Gifts of Gratitude

Do you always find yourself looking high and low for the perfect Christmas and end-of-year gifts for your children's teachers?

If this sounds like you, consider participating in the Gifts of Gratitude program, Saint Brigid's gift giving program for ALL teachers and staff.

The Home and School Association established Gifts of Gratitude as a united effort by families to provide generous gifts for all teachers and staff to thank them for sharing their talents with our children on a daily basis.

Each family's $20 contribution per child provides for each teacher and staff member:

  • A Christmas monetary gift card
  • A special Christmas gift item
  • A special end-of-year gift item and monetary gift card

Your family's participation in this program is optional. The suggested annual gift amount is $20 per child; however, any amount given is graciously accepted. There are two payment options:

1)      Quick and easy: pay securely through PayPal! Log on to www.paypal.com, choose the "send money to friends and family" option, enter the email address sbkgiftsofgratitude@gmail.com and  the total amount your family would like to contribute, and complete the transaction.

2)      Send a check to school with your child payable to St. Brigid Home and School. Please mark the outside of the envelope with "Home and School Gifts of Gratitude."

Please send your contribution by Friday, December 5.

Questions regarding the Gifts of Gratitude program may be directed to Home & School Association Vice Co-Chairs: Mary Moore at mary.moore@live.com and Theresa Vivona at vivona1012@gmail.com.

Thank you for your generosity!

Recess Volunteers Needed
We are now offering parents the opportunity to register for a specific recess time/group(s) rather than requiring volunteers to stay for the entire two hour recess period. Recess times are listed below by grade and correspond to the available sign-up slots. Feel free to sign up only for your child's recess and consider staying for lunch with your child, which follows their recess.

Recess times are as follows:
  • 1st & 2nd grades: 10:05 - 10:35
  • 7th & 8th grades: 11:00 - 11:20
  • 3rd & 4th grades: 11:20 - 11:45
  • 5th & 6th grades: 12:00 - 12:20
  • (to volunteer for kindergarten, please contact your child's teacher directly since they use the playground located outside the K classrooms).

The primary responsibility of a recess volunteer is to supervise safety of children while they play and assist with playground equipment.  Volunteers must have completed the Protecting God's Children program. For questions contact debfoley@columbus.rr.com.

A Living Rosary

Last week, we had our first CARE meeting of the year. Our theme focused on how disciples on a journey use prayer to grow closer to God and to grow closer to others. We learned about how prayer is a powerful tool for positive change in the world. With our eighth grade students leading their CARE groups, they explained to the younger students that we are all disciples on a journey to become closer to God. The students had nine envelopes to find, each of which held a clue. They then had to decide if the clue fit under student discipleship or praying the rosary. Students discussed the connection between prayer and good disciples, then spent time writing prayers for loved ones. The meeting ended with the whole school saying five decades of the rosary while witnessing a living rosary on the gym floor.
