In This Issue
Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to the end of 1st quarter and our annual Fall Harvest parties which are sponsored by our Annual Fund and will take place on Thursday.  To celebrate a great 1st quarter and to recognize that we have so many of our Wolfhound teams playing championship games this coming weekend we will have a special dress day on Thursday.  Msgr. Hendricks has given special permission for this day even though we will be attending Mass on Thursday morning.  Please wear dress down day clothes that will be Mass appropriate and it is suggested to wear fall colors, school colors or even your Wolfhound team jersey!

Report cards will be published the week of November 10 online on SchoolSpeak. If you have not yet logged on to SchoolSpeak, please do so now to ensure you will be able to access your child's report cards. If you do not have your login information, please call the school office at 718-5825.

Today we held our 2nd school safety drill.  Please ask your children to share with you the discussions that took place in their classroom on the topic of school safety.  On a related topic of safety I recently received a notification that there is a sex offender residing in the area.  Please click on this link to learn more.  http://www.icrimewatch.net/offenderdetails.php?OfndrID=2082780&AgencyID=55213  Click at the bottom of the page that you agree with the terms and conditions and the information will become available.

If you would like to register to receive notifications from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department please register at the following link:  http://www.icrimewatch.net/register.php?AgencyID=55213

Annual Fund: Did You Know?
Did you know that family and friends support the Annual Fund?  Instead of asking grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends to purchase items (candy, cookies, wrapping paper, and magazines) you can have them give a gift that gives 100% to Saint Brigid of Kildare School and your child's education. Compare this to the 15% your child's school would receive if he/she were to sell items.  Each year we receive gifts from relatives that support the Annual Fund.

If you are interested in this program we would be glad to mail a request to your family or we can provide a packet of information for you to give directly to your family.  This is just another way for you to support St. Brigid of Kildare through this unique program!  Please contact Sarah Moore at [email protected] or in the parish office at 761-3734.
2014 - 2015 Parent Survey

All parents, please take a few minutes to complete our annual parent survey. These responses are important to us as we continually analyze and evaluate our school's performance.

Thank you to those who have already completed it.

And don't forget eLabels for Education!

Then, electronically collect an additional 1 point for each participating Labels for Education product purchased when you use your shopper card at participating retailers. Sign up by registering at eLabelsForEducation.com. Create your profile, enter your shopper card number from a participating retailer, and then select the school you would like to support. Each participating product that you purchase from your favorite participating retailer will earn 1 point that will be credited to your school's Labels for Education account automatically.

EPIC (Middle School Youth Group) Collecting Thanksgiving Boxes
The EPIC Middle School Youth Group invites parishioners who are interested to donate an entire Thanksgiving box of food, which will be delivered directly to the homes of client families of the Food Pantry by EPIC students and parent drivers. These families may not have the means to get to the Food Pantry to pick up their meal
and delivering the food will give our youth the opportunity to experience helping someone in need first-hand.

Parishioners interested can provide everything from the following list in a sturdy box, and ideally will drop the box off at St. Brigid parking lot at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, where students will unload the box from your vehicle and reload it into a parent driver vehicle for delivery. Alternative arrangements for drop off can be made. The list includes: turkey breast (6 lbs), boxed potatoes, canned gravy, boxed stuffing, canned corn, canned green beans, canned cranberries, canned beets, assorted fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges), pumpkin pie and rolls. If you choose this option, please contact Kim VanHuffel at [email protected] or 614-593-5173. The EPIC students will be limited to delivering 80 Thanksgiving meals, so sign up soon.
Thank you for your generosity!

Parent Like a Champion Today - Training Offered at St. Brigid Dec 2

Beginning this year, 2014-2015, the Diocese Recreation Association (DRA) will be implementing Parent Like A Champion Today training for all of next year's 5th grade sports parents which supports parents as the primary educators of their children, especially in their faith.  This is accomplished by providing parents with a sports workshop which teaches them strategies to be champion sports parents in their attitude and behaviors and enables them to positively partner with their children's coaches.

By 2018-2019, all parents will need to take the training prior to their child's participation in the DRA programs. The diocese has established a "phasing in period" in an attempt to offer this class to all parents of diocesan sports starting with this year's 4th grade parents (2014-2015). Although this year's 4th grade parents have until July 2015 to complete the training, next year's 4th and 5th grade parents (2015 -2016 academic year) will need to complete the training before their child can participate in DRA sports programs.

Key points:

* Only 1 parent per family needs to attend but both parents are welcome.

* Head coaches who have completed Play Like a Champion do NOT need to also take Parent Like a Champion Today.

Recruiting Parent Helpers Now for Girl's Tennis Team Next Season

The Girl's Tennis Team 2015 is recruiting now for 3 parent volunteers. Tennis at St. Brigid is a Club Sport, totally run by parent volunteers. This past season was incredible, with a 15-1 record. If your daughter is thinking about playing tennis, this is a great opportunity for you to volunteer.  Mimi Geswein, our coach, will be coaching again next season.  She cannot do this alone, so we are looking for parent volunteers.  Three of the parents from this past season have 8th graders, and will not be returning next season.  The positions needed are a Parent Administrator, a Uniform Coordinator, and an Assitant Coach.

Parent Administrator - helps prepare the team schedule for the season by contacting opponent teams, this is done at the end of each current season for the following season, and this is almost complete now for the 2015 season. This position runs the ads in the church bulletin and Wolfhound Herald in the spring to recruit team players, collects the fees and necessary forms for the team, purchases team supplies, and assists the coach with communicating with the team.  Past season books and information are available to make these duties very easy to perform; and there is a wonderful Shutterfly site set up for easy communicating.

Uniform Coordinator - helps make sure each member has a uniform shirt for the season, orders any additional shirt sizes if there are not enough current sizes on hand, communicates uniform details to the parents, along with what additional items the girls need for the season, and collects the uniform shirts at the end of the season.

Assistant Coach - should have some knowledge of tennis, assist the coach with practices, run drills with the team, help the coach make decisions like the team line-up for matches, and help at the matches with tracking scores and assisting with coaching the girls.

If you have any questions on these duties and/or would like to volunteer, please contact either Laura Vogel, current Parent Coordinator, at [email protected], or cell (614) 529-0564, or Mimi Geswein, coach, at [email protected], or cell (614) 374-8755.

All Saints Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team Looking for Players Now

The All Saints Middle School Girls Lacrosse team is for 6, 7, & 8 grade students of Watterson feeder schools. They will begin March 2015, with practices at St. Andrew several times a week, with 8-10 games in April and May.

Goggles, middle school girls' lacrosse stick, cleats, and mouth guard are required. Registration will be in January, but they are forming the team NOW!! The fee will depend on the numbers of girls on the team: the more girls, the less the cost to cover fields, refs and equipment.

Contact Sandy Joseph (Coordinator) 614-595-6405 or [email protected] if your daughter is interested!
