Dear Parents,

I am overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of our students and families with the donations for St. Catherine of Siena School in Texas.  The donations truly represent that our students are embracing a life of discipleship.  I have heard of many stories of students emptying their piggy banks, huge coffee cans of coins they have been collecting for years, donating the money they earned from a weekend of hard work on the farm and in their neighborhoods, lemonade stands, donations of birthday money and so many more.  One of my favorite quotes of St. Catherine is " Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire." Our students are certainly learning to set the world on fire with their kindness and generosity for children they have never even met.

Not only are we called to take care of children in communities that are far away, but we are also called to work together as a local community to take care of our children.  The parish sponsored Crucial Conversations 2.0 next Wednesday is a great opportunity to learn more about how to care for our children.  Our community will grow in strength and knowledge with the commitment to help each other create a child-centered community.  Parenting today includes navigating the pressures of social media and technology, and the resulting anxiety is no easy task.   It is important for at least one parent from each family to attend this event.  I firmly believe that it is only by your support and awareness that we can make our school and parish community a strong safe place for our children to grow and learn.   Please use this link to RSVP and to learn more about this crucial evening for our community.  (Feel free to invite neighbors or other interested friends/family to the evening).

In next week's Wolfhound Wednesday we will be debuting our ALSO (After School Learning Opportunities) program offerings for 2017-18. ALSO programs provide a wide range of extracurricular opportunities for students in grades 3-8, and are no cost to families thanks to the generous support of the School Annual Fund. Sign ups will be held in homeroom classes on Thursday, September 21st and Friday, September 22nd. SPiCE will also be offering the Get Moving Program again as an after school option.  Details will also be available next week for this program.

Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Hurricane Harvey Relief for St. Catherine of Siena School Update

Just last  Wednesday we announced we were raising funds for St. Catherine of Siena School in Port Arthur, TX to help with hurricane relief. In under a week's time, our school community has raised over $6,000 for their school!

Last Friday we mailed St. Catherine School a check for $4000, gift cards to Home Depot and Lowes along with student made prayer cards.

Their principal is very thankful and has called to express her gratitude to our school many times.

We will be collecting donations through  Friday, September 15th

Thank you for your amazing and heartfelt generosity!

EPIC Middle School Youth Group
TAASC Service Day Oct 15

Our EPIC Youth Group will help out at TAASC - The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition -- on October 15. TAASC is a local non-profit that provides opportunities for veterans, adults, and children with disabilities to participate in adventure sports activities. We will complete a lot of outdoor work to winterize their property on Harriott Road by the the Scioto River. This will involve widening their walking paths by removing a lot of brush and weeds, cleaning out their sheds for bikes, canoes and other equipment, making sure the equipment is winterized and in good shape for next year, and possibly some power-washing and painting.

As always, we will begin with 12:15 p.m. Mass, sitting in the reserved section by the baptismal font; then we will go to Hendrick's Hall for pizza, games and discussion. We will leave for TAASC at about 1:45 p.m. and will return by 4:15 p.m. for parent pickup. Parent volunteers are still needed. Contact Kim if you can help. Students should wear their long sleeve EPIC t-shirts and bring a pair of work gloves. If you do not have a t-shirt yet, you can get it and change before we leave.

Don't forget to RSVP by contacting Kim VanHuffel at [email protected].
