Dear Parents,

Many students, families and staff have been asking how can we best help the people in Texas recover from the devastation created by Hurricane Harvey.  One of our staff members, Yvonne Schwab, has connections with a little Catholic school in Port Arthur, TX that is in need of a lot of financial assistance to get back on their feet.  Please see the story below to learn more about St. Catherine of Siena School and how we can help. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support!

If you missed curriculum night, you can find all grade level's curriculum packets and mission statements at our website on the Current Families page.

Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Hurricane Harvey Relief for St. Catherine of Siena School
St. Catherine of Siena School has 170 students, is very diverse, and serves the industrial migrant workers working in the refineries.  Most of the families are low income and they are not able to financially help their school get back on their feet. The school does have flood insurance, but they need to first pay the deductible, which is quite large for the financial resources of the school. The principal has had to suspend the FACTS tuition payments for this month because what money the families do have,  they need for their own shelter and to replace clothing and items lost. Without the tuition payments, they will not be able to make the payroll for the staff.

Their principal acted fast when she knew that Harvey would affect them.  Before leaving her building, she had her faculty get everything they could off the floors so they were able to salvage a lot of books and supplies.  They currently have fans in the building to dry it out, have already removed all the carpet and the gym floor. Principal Haidee Todora is determined to open her school on Monday, Sept 11.  She knows that if she doesn't, she will lose students to schools that are reopening. They will then replace one classroom at a time.
To help the best way we can, we want to get a simple fundraising effort going among our students and send a check to Haidee.   If you would rather, you can send gift cards for Home Depot, Lowes, Office Depot, Walmart, Target, etc.  The CBS  Sunday Morning news program   stated this week that most people send items they think people will need, yet much of the "stuff" that is sent is useless and never used.  Money is best because they can use it for what they need most.

How we can help:
Each classroom has a collection can for students to contribute cash and coins. Parents may also make checks out to St. Catherine of Siena School, and students can put those in the cans as well.

When students make a donation, they can come to the cafeteria to glue mosaic pieces on the donation thermometer. St. Catherine's school theme this year is "Changing the World, One Good Deed at a Time," so we hope to tie in their theme with our school theme of "Our Family of Disciples: Pieces in Christ's Mosaic."

Classes will be prayerfully supporting the families of St. Catherine of Siena through prayer chains, videos, notes and classroom activities. Together with our school community's prayers and donations, we can make a big difference for our sister school in Texas.

Sign up for Scrip and Earn Tuition Credit!

There are 7 months remaining to earn a tuition credit for the 2018-19 school year! Through Scrip, families purchase gift cards from nearly 400 retailers and receive a rebate that is later applied to their tuition statement.

What makes St. Brigid's program special is that 100 percent of the rebate or discount is credited to each participating family's individual St. Brigid tuition account.

By partnering with the Great Lakes Scrip Company, St. Brigid receives the gift cards at a discount ranging from nearly 2 percent to as much as 30 percent, based on the retailer. St. Brigid families pay face value for the cards and the rebated amount is applied to next year's tuition.

Scrip Now! and reloadable gift cards make it even easier for families to add up the savings. Scrip Now! are electronic gift cards that can be ordered online anytime of the day or night. They are sent to your e-mail account and can be printed out and taken to the store or used online.

There also are more than 50 Reload Now cards that add funds in minutes and Reload cards that add funds overnight. Once one of these cards has been ordered through the Scrip program, additional money can be added from your computer or smart phone.

All purchases made before March 31, 2018, will be applied to 2018-19 tuition statements. Purchase made April 1, 2018, or later will be applied to 2019-20 tuition statements.
