Dear Parents,

I would like to thank the many parents who attended our Parent Information evening last week to learn about the new ALICE protocol.   Several parents have asked if the session could be repeated; I will look into offering this again at a later date.  I will let you know when we will have our 1st Safe School Drill using the ALICE concepts so that you may follow up at home if you wish.  The "drill" will be in the form of an age appropriate discussion with the students; we will not be asking students to leave the building.

To complement our standards-based grading model, we have implemented a process for student goal setting, student portfolios and student-led conferencing. This process promotes maximum student growth and increased opportunities for student self reflection and feedback from both teachers and parents. Parents can further support this effort by reviewing their children's work found each week in Friday folders, talking with their children over the weekend about the learning from the week and discussing what is needed to show mastery. These types of conversations are invaluable as they serve to motivate children to do their best.

The first formal student-led conferences for the year are scheduled for September 24th and 25th.  The link to sign up for a time slot for the conferences will be available this Friday, September 12th.  You will receive a link on Friday with information for scheduling.

Have a great week,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

New This Year: Photo Newsletters

This year we will be replacing our teachers' written monthly newsletters with photo newsletters. Instead of a multi-page document, we'll have online photo albums to show the students' activities, along with captions to describe what they're learning. To see and read about what each of our classes have been up to, we'll send you the link to the photo newsletters that have been updated each week in the Wolfhound Wednesday.

To view, click a photo then scroll down to read the caption describing the activity and content the students are learning. You can then hit the arrow icon to the right or left of the photo to scroll through to the next photo.

This week, we have photo newsletters from preschool, kindergarten and 1st grade (click the image below to view). Next week look for updates from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.

You can also find the link to these newsletters by clicking "Calendar and News" on our website, then clicking "Photo Newsletters" on the left.

If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday with a donation to help defray the cost of a new book, please fill out the below form and send it to school today. When your child's birthday is near, he/she will be asked to pick out a book of choice.

Scouts Updates

St. Brigid students and alumni from Boy Scout Troop 117 and Girl Scout Troop 2097 participated in "Scout for a Day" where they served as buddies to children with Down syndrome.  The campers went through different stations accompanied by their St. Brigid buddies to experience what it is like to be a Boy Scout or Girl Scout.  Some St. Brigid scouts were tasked to run the various stations.  All in all, it was an enriching experience for the St. Brigid scouts.
