Dear Parents,

This week I have a couple of great opportunities for parents and families to get involved in the St. Brigid School community.
  1. The SPiCE Family Fun Day sponsored by The Donut Experiment is coming up Sunday, October 7 from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. This is a fun community event that raises awareness and funds for our Special People in Catholic Education (SPiCE) program.

Pre-registration is required by Monday, October 1. Please click here to register if you have not yet.

  2. We are excited to be working together as a community to build a new fresh play area for our young wolfhounds!  With the blessing of SPiCE funds and additional support from our School Annual Fund we are excited to be a hosting a community build to install our sensory friendly and inclusive playground.  This is an adult or high school student service opportunity due to potential safety hazards in a construction area. There are 2 shifts on Saturday, October 6, 8:00 - Noon and Noon - finish (between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.)  Please see the sign-up genius for more details!!

Any questions and be directed to Lori Henry at 614-561-0244 or loritoddhenry@gmail.com

Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Meals  on  Wheels  Delivery Opportunity
Informational Meeting October 11

There is a strong need to provide and deliver meals for the elderly in Columbus. You and your family have the chance to partner with LifeCare Alliance's Meals on Wheels program to help keep our aging neighbors in their homes, where they want to be. Our children will see the good they are doing in their community by handing over a hot meal to someone in need, while spending some quality time with their family.

This summer, we "adopted" our own route, which we run M-F every week. We are looking to recruit an additional 10-12 families to join the 20 or so of us that are currently servicing this route. You can work the route as frequently or as infrequently as you would like, but we are asking for a commitment of at least once per month.

Meals will be picked up at 10:45 am at Dublin Community church in downtown Dublin.  Our route takes a little over an hour to complete. We will have an informational meeting and training session on Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 am (immediately following Mass) in Hendricks Hall. Please contact Nancy Davis at 336-337-4421 to RSVP, or with any other questions you might have.
New After-School Study Tables
Sign Up Link Below!

Through the support of our SPiCE program, Saint Brigid of Kildare School is excited to announce the new After-School Study Tables program for students in grades 5-8. The focus of these  study  tables will be for students to work on executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, and  study strategies, as well as giving children time to receive support with homework.

The  study  tables will be held in the school from 3-4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. Mrs. DeLucia, along with other staff members, will supervise the program to ensure a quiet learning environment and give support as needed.

To Sign Up:
Parents will sign their child up for each individual session (on a first-come, first-served basis) via a Sign up Genius link. Children must be signed up at least 24 hours in advance of each session. Parents will need to bring a transportation note change for each day their child is signed up. Latchkey students may also sign up through the same link.

After-School  Study  Tables will begin on Monday, September 24.

Football Service Project

On Saturday, September 15, more than 30 football players and parents made a trip to the Run the Race Farm in Galloway.  We overwhelmed Joe the farm manager with how many people were willing to help out around the farm.  We pulled weeds, moved straw bales, moved railroad ties to create walkways, and brushed the goats.  Joe said that what we got done  in two hours would have taken him weeks to complete, and for that he was very grateful.  When the work was done, the kids were able to see the farm's animals which included sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, dogs, geese, rabbits, and quail.

In addition to the work and play, those football families that attended and those that weren't able to attend donated many items that Run the Race needed.  We filled a room in Joe's house on the farm with snacks and drinks for the Racers and also with personal hygienic products and lots of sporting gear.

Thank you to the football program for your generosity and your willingness to get your hands dirty!

Let's Have Dinner and  Talk About Death

November 15, 2018
Immke Room in Hendricks Hall
6:00 - 8:30 PM
RSVP by October 15, 2018

This might be the most unusual dinner invitation I have ever sent, but bear with me, I think we are in for a remarkable experience.  I would be honored if you would take the time to join Msgr. Hendricks, attorney Michael Zaino, a physician, and me for dinner and to engage in this conversation. They will offer a few words that will hopefully prompt us into some important conversations.  We will explore the Catholic view of dying and death, options for the end of life care, and advanced directives according to the State of Ohio.

Talking about death and dying can be uncomfortable and difficult, yet perhaps no conversations are more profound or necessary for all of us. End-of-life decisions are among the most challenging we will ever face.  This is not meant to be a morbid conversation, but instead a very human one where we consider what we want, both in life and during its end and look at it in the context of our faith and values.

Register online at our website  www.stbrigidofkildare.org  or call the Parish Office. Each participant must complete a registration form.  Online registration begins October 1 at 9 AM and ends October 14 at midnight. Space is limited to 64 people so don't delay in registering.

Family-Friendly Tech for the Digital Age
Handy Tips for the Domestic Church

As one of the main themes of the World Meeting of Families, technology pioneers came together to discuss the role of technology in the family during the three-day Pastoral Congress, which was held last month in Dublin, Ireland.

The professionals recognized the battle parents are facing to compete with technology for quality time with their children.
