Chaplain's Corner

This past week in Chapel, we continued our journey in the Book of I John. This letter of from the Apostle John has been our guide as we answer the foundational question: “What does a genuine faith look like?”

As you and your family go about life this week, consider the following questions for conversation:

CONVERSATIONS STARTERS:

Read through I John 3:11-18

  • “When John writes, ‘For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.’ he was not adding anything new to the Christian faith, he was simply reinforcing what had already been revealed (Lev.19:18; Matt.22:34-40; John 13:35; Gal.5:14; James 2:8) in Scripture. Why was it important that John’s readers be reminded of this commandment to love one another?”

  • “How does the evil of Cain (further explained in Genesis 4) relate to our struggle to love one another?”

  • “What does it mean to say that Jesus Christ is our definition of love (vs.16)?”

  • “When the Bible repeatedly tells us to love one another, it is calling us to mimic the actions and attitudes of Jesus Christ on the people around us. Who in your life right now needs emotional healing? Who in your life right now needs encouragement? Who in your life right now needs forgiveness?”

  • “How can I pray for you?”

Thank you so much for continuing in your homes the conversations that we have in our chapels.
