"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person
according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10

Chaplain's Corner
This past week in Chapel, we were grateful to have Patrick Sanders (PACS Bible and Economics Teacher) continue our journey through the Book of Mark by walking our students through the mission and message of Jesus.

As you are in your homes, in your cars, and around the table this upcoming week, read the following passages and discuss the following questions:

[READ Jeremiah 17:9 and Mark 1:14-15]

  • “How does Jeremiah describe the heart? How is this different from how so many people describe the heart? Why is it important to know the true state of our heart?”

  • “We know that Jesus offers salvation (transforming our heart) by His grace and by no merit of our own. Why is it true that when we try to earn our salvation, we are actually pushing ourselves farther away from God?”

[ READ Mark 7:1-23]

  • “The Pharisees tried to impress God (and the people around them) with their ceremonial hand-washing. What are some ways that we attempt to impress God (and try to convince the people around us that we have our acts together) or attempt to ‘prove’ to God that we love Him?”

  • “It is great that we are following the commandments of God, but why are you following the commandments of God?”

  • “If you are struggling to understand what are the characteristics of a Christian in a certain situation, what should you do…where should you turn?”
