Happy International Women's Day!
Today, on International Women's Day, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the progress made towards gender equality and women's and girls' empowerment. At the United Nations Climate Change secretariat, there are many reasons to celebrate.
An understanding of the importance of women and girls as agents of change, crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of climate action in all countries while overcoming existing gender inequalities, is now firmly established.
At the national and local level, there is a growing body of examples and case studies of enhanced climate policy development and implementation in which women are included in all aspects, not only as 'recipients', but also as key stakeholders and solution makers.
Inspirational stories include those from the many Momentum for Change winners of recent years, including the four 2017 Women for Results winners. We invite you to spend a few minutes on International Women's Day to watch the video below to learn how women are an unstoppable force for climate action.
Apply to become a 2018 Momentum for Change Lighthouse Activity
The United Nations Climate Change secretariat is accepting applications for the 2018 Momentum for Change Awards until 30 April to showcase action and ambition as national governments work toward implementing the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
If your project is selected, you'll receive a wide range of benefits, including:
Attendance to the 2018 UN Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland (COP 24);
Access to policy makers and potential funders during the conference;
Public recognition by the UN Climate Change;
