Women in Manufacturing and Industry Conference

Like a number of things in today's workforce, there is a misperception that women have no desire to join the ranks of manufacturers. This stems, of course, from hundreds of years of male-dominated industries and historical gender bias that excluded women from key managerial roles or from the higher rungs of the corporate ladder.

The reality of the situation is this: There are about a half-million manufacturing jobs in this country that are currently unfilled because companies cannot find qualified workers to hire. Translation: Women are the key to filling this critical gap.

The Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and co-host Cardone Industries will examine this and other issues on Wednesday, November 15, 8:00 am - 11:00 am at Cardone, 5501 Whitaker Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124 for the inaugural Women in Manufacturing and Industry Conference offering high-level presentations from the region's experts.

"We decided to take a closer look at this issue for a number of reasons, but perhaps the most important was, it's time to reframe perceptions of the traditional American manufacturing industry as backwards and unprogressive, when, in fact, it is not," said Pam Henshall, president of the GNPCC. "Cardone Industries, for example, is a leader in a fresh approach to cultural change. We have other manufacturers as members who are no longer male-dominated. Women as manufacturers are good for business and the bottom line."

Topics will include:
culture - finances - employee support - law - sales - partnerships
