February 2018
womenDOORWAYS Receives Top Designation

DOORWAYS has been named one of the top employers in Missouri for women in the workplace. This honor, awarded by the Women's Foundation of Greater Saint Louis, was received by only five other organizations in the area.

DOORWAYS received the honor due to our recruitment and retention of women, compensation packages, women in leadership positions, workplace culture and community involvement.

Research has proven gender diversity in the workplace results in stronger financial outcomes for employers and the economy. DOORWAYS is proud to be a leader in promoting diversity of all types throughout our organization and the community.

 InspiRED 2018

RED 2018 was held Saturday, February 3 at the elegant Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton with the theme "Inspi RED : 30 Years of Providing Hope" in recognition of DOORWAYS' upcoming 30th anniversary. A great success, with 540 guests and revenues exceeding $400,000, RED 's net proceeds will directly support DOORWAYS' mission and programs, which were highlighted in comments by DOORWAYS President and CEO, Opal M. Jones, as well as in a poignant video revealing how DOORWAYS' services inspired one resident to embrace her value and talents, opening new doors of opportunity.

VIP guests were the first to arrive for a private reception for
RED patrons and representatives of the sponsoring organizations. This was followed by an open-bar cocktail reception during which guests perused the 18 RED Raffle Baskets overflowing with merchandise and gift certificates each valued at more than $600. Attendees were ushered into the elegant ballroom for a seated dinner, live auction, agency presentation, and Fund The Need appeal, after which they enjoyed mingling and dancing. DOORWAYS' former board member and renowned cabaret singer, Ken Haller, M.D., served as the emcee.

The live auction included six outstanding packages, with the Golden Ticket winner-Matt German, an infectious disease doctor at St. Luke's Hospital-selecting the week in Norway auction item donated by Margaret and Kjeld Hvatum.

RED is possible through countless hours of service from many volunteers. We are grateful to all of them:
  • RED 2018 event co-chairs Rick Pennell, M.D.; Christine Pennell; Marjorie Melton, P.E.; and Michael Smith, Ph.D.
  • RED Patron co-chairs Diane Gershman Levine and Jay Joern, D.D.S.
  • RED Raffle co-chairs Rudi Bertrand; Paul Williams, M.D.; Kathy Eiser; and Steve Eiser.
  • The RED Dinner Committee, and the many volunteers managing implementation the night of the event.
A huge thank you to all our corporate sponsors and individual donors who collectively helped RED 2018 set new records! For a complete list of contributors and photos from InspiRED 2018, please visit
