Featured Speaker - Ann McKee, M.D.
Appleton native Ann McKee, M.D., is a true agent of change. As the Director of the Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) Center at Boston University and Chief Neuropathologist for the brain banks at VA Boston, her ground breaking work identifying CTE in contact sport athletes and military veterans has increased our understanding of the roles concussions and head injuries play in long-term brain health.

Dr. McKee was featured in the Frontline Documentary  League of Denial  and has participated in briefings with the National Football League. She has testified at hearings and briefings before the United States Congress and Senate on the effects of head injuries, including the impact on student athletes and military service members.

Dr. McKee has received numerous awards including the Boston Globe Bostonian of the Year Award, the Sports Legacy Institute Impact Award, the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh Scientific Impact Award; and Spivack Distinguished Scholar in the Neurosciences Award and the Neurology Faculty Research Award, both from Boston University School of Medicine.

The Women's Fund is honored to welcome this courageous and accomplished woman in science home to Appleton to share her story.
Women's Fund Welcomes Summer Intern

The Women's Fund is pleased to welcome Suzanne Hones as our summer intern! Suzanne will be with us through our Women's Fund Luncheon, and in addition to helping with social media and planning for the big event, she will be evaluating the Girls' Grantmaking Project and its long-term impact on participants of the program, as well as helping with various office duties.

Suzanne is from West Plains, Missouri, but she arrived in Appleton in 2013 as a freshman at Lawrence University. She just graduated this past June from Lawrence with a degree in linguistics and French and Francophone studies. While in school, she was a member of student government, the student newspaper, and Women's Longboarding Club. ("It's basically a long skateboard," she says.) Suzanne was also a senior class officer.

Her plans following the Women's Fund include heading to France to work as an English teaching assistant for seven months. Before going off on this grand adventure, though, she says, "I'm really happy to be getting invaluable professional experience at a place that supports such great causes right here in the Fox Valley. I've enjoyed working with this team so far and can't wait to get to know the Women's Fund community even better."

Wish Suzanne "Bon courage!" as she prepares to leave for France ("and as I figure out what I want to do after that!" she says).
Thank You!
Because of your investment in our work, the Women's Fund awarded $114,693 in grants through a variety of donor advised, field of interest, scholarship and Young Philanthropist funds in the fiscal year that ended June 30. Total Women's Fund grantmaking now totals more than $1.25 million!
