Walleye is Back at the Rookery!

And this weekend Chef Tim is featuring what many believe to be the best part of the fish, the cheeks. Walleye cheeks pan sautéed  in a lemon beurre blanc sauce and served with duchess potatoes. Get 'em while they last. Which probably won't be long!

Yet if you miss out on this weekend's special walleye preparation the consolation prize is pretty darn delicious as well. Because  beginning tonight  we're also adding filet of walleye to our regular dinner menu, pistachio encrusted and pan sautéed, served with  creamy spinach fettuccine.

It's just one of several mid-winter modifications we're making to our dinner menu. We're also swapping out the meat in our burgers from bison to kobe beef. I just sampled one last night and can attest to the fact the kobe beef version is more juicy and flavorful. Not to mention a few bucks cheaper.

But if you're not a red meat eater there's good news for you as well. We've also added two new vegetarian dishes to our menu: Edamame Tarragon Risotto and Vegetable Curry. The curry technically is vegan, and the risotto can be as well if you simply ask your server to skip the parmesan.

Finally we've added  a couple of new appetizers to our menu. Including Chef Tim's special Crab Cake recipe that everyone raved about on New Year's Eve. Along with a vegetarian Bruschetta prepared with fresh tomatoes and herbs.

Valentine's Day is Just Around the Corner

This year Valentine's Day happens to fall on a Tuesday (February 14). And while the Rookery generally is closed on Tuesday evenings at this time of year, we  don't want you to have to disappoint your sweetheart. So  we're gonna make an exception and open for Valentine's Day with a very special menu that evening.

This romantic dinner always is  one of our busiest of the winter. And last year we filled all available openings. So call soon to ensure your spot.

And lest our weekend guests feel left out, we're also going to give you the opportunity to celebrate the midweek occasion a little early this year by offering our special five course dinner on the Saturday and Sunday evenings immediately preceding Valentine's Day (Feb 11 & 12). We anticipate those evenings will be busy as well, so please help us better serve you by reserving early and indicating your interest in our Sweetheart Dinner.


The Rookery's Valentine Sweetheart Dinner

Bruschetta
toasted baguettes with vine ripened tomatoes, fresh basil & garlic, and olive oil finished with shredded parmesan and a balsamic glaze

Ying & Yang Soup
sweet roasted red peppers smoothed with a lace of heavy cream AND
black bean purée w/ hint of cumin & cilantro dolloped with sour cream
(paired in the same bowl)

Blue Apple Salad
mixed greens tossed with Granny Smith apples, roasted pecans, and red onions topped with fresh blue cheese crumbles & finished with housemade raspberry vinaigrette

Black Angus Ribeye OR Seafood Lover's Trio
hand cut 12 oz ribeye seasoned and charred to perfection, topped with a brandy mushroom demi-glace
or
half a lobster tail steamed in Chardonnay and lemon, three jumbo shrimp crusted in coconut panko with a spicy orange dill aïoli, & three sea scallops grilled on a skewer with a tequila lime cilantro sauce

Flourless Chocolate Torte
knock-out blend of four chocolates finished with a ganache topping, elegant and timeless, like a little black dress
