Woodard and Churchich Win 6th Consecutive WSCGA Team Championship
We beat the odds and played the final round of the 2018 WSCGA Team Championship without a drop of rain. It turned out to be a beautiful 4 hour round with no rain insight and a slight breeze out of the west. Fairways dry and fast, greens smooth, a two day team champion was crowned. Going into the final round with a one shot lead, the team of Dawn Woodard and Sue Churchich were able to hold onto the lead to win there 7th WSCGA Team Championship; 6th consecutive. Carding 4 birdies in the modified alternate shot format to edge out Lea Venable and Lea Anne Brown by one shot for the championship. Woodard/Churchich had to birdie the last hole to win and did.

Two shots back from the championship Emily Rapp and Victoria Tsurits shot three under on the back side to win first place in the First Flight. Coming in second was the team of Lynn Holmes and Kristi Coggins, playing in there first WSCGA Team Championship together they shot one under on the front nine for a two day total of +7. Coming in 3rd in the First Flight was Betty Jean Armbruster and Nancy Dodge, just one shot back behind the Holmes/Coggins, playing steady by never making more than a bogey all day. Rounding out the top 4 spot was Cecelia Barksdale Pervis and Julie Flynn shooting a two day total of +9, beating out Louise Givens and Linda Kernen (even with a chip in by Linda for birdie on the back nine) and Stephanie Johnson/Chrissie Spidell in a scorecard playoff.

Sliding into second place was Karren Peterson and Cindy Runnette who also made the par 3's look easy today posting 2's on half of them. In 3rd place in the Second Flight was Jan Bowers and Kay Hall only two shot back of Peterson/Runnette. Finalizing the top 4 in this flight was Jackie Bennett/ Jeannie Hilock with three birdies on the day.

The Third Flight was a really close race that came down to just one or two made putts making the difference between 1st and 4th place. Making more putts than the rest in the flight, Laura Rawl and Teddy Stockwell edged out Susan Christian and Robin Myers by one shot for the title. In 3rd place, was Tori Langen and Anne Smith posting a +21 over, just ahead of the Upstate duo of Leah Bohnen and Dana Halliday.

Once again great times and great golf were had at the WSCGA Team Championship. Play was fast and the rain waited tip 30 minutes after we finished to water the course. Thank you Dolphin Head Golf Club for being such gracious host and making the event special. Until next year a quote from one of the greats......

"I always tell them, if you miss a shot, it's the attitude you take to the next shot that's going to make you a great player. It's all about 'I can't wait to hit the next shot." Nancy Lopez giving young tour players advice.

Looking forward to you hitting the next with us soon.
