April showers bring May flowers...and new programs!! No matter the weather, we have you covered. New programs for the spring will be published in the Voices newspaper on April 4th! Look for our insert! New programs will also be available for online registration on April 4th. 

As weather can be unpredictable, please check our
website  for all of the up-to-date information regarding all of our programs.  In the event of any changes to programs (including rain dates), our website will have the current class make-up and cancellation information!  If you're not sure, you can always call our office or email us at the information below.

Getting Jiggy: Irish Step Dancing

Let your child experience the history and culture of Ireland!  Taught by World Renown Dancing Competitors and Instructors Catie and Hali whose goal is to provide superior Irish Dance instruction to build confidence and enrich the lives of our students.  

The kids should bring a smile and a pair of listening ears!  Sneakers or any type of soft dancing shoe, comfortable clothes and a water bottle.  Information about purchasing formal Irish Dancing Gillies (shoes) and Irish Dance Practice music will be given the first week of class.  Parents are encouraged to drop off students and can watch during the "open class" on the last week.  Family and friends are welcome to attend the class performance, there will be plenty of photo ops to capture the action.

Tree Care

Area residents are invited to a seminar on tree care sponsored by the Woodbury Shade Tree and Sidewalk Committee and the Park and Recreation Department.  Harris "Bud" Neal of Neal Tree Service will discuss and show proper ways to prune and trim your trees.  The one day program, which includes hands-on tree trimming experience, will be held on Saturday April 1st or 8th,from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Shove Building, 281 Main Street South.

Beekeeping 101

Have you always wanted to keep honeybees but not known how to get started? The Woodbury Recreation Dept. will be hosting a honeybee keeping class. Mike Rice of Mike's Beehives LLC will be instructing the class. He will go over the beginning steps of honeybee keeping which include: An explanation of each hive part, installing bees into the hive, feeding your bees, the life cycle of a bee, how to register your bees with the state of Connecticut and why they should be registered, the different roles of each bee, some of the typical problems you might encounter in honeybee keeping and harvesting honey. Mike will bring all the equipment needed to cover all aspects of bee keeping!

Drop In Volleyball

Haven't played for a while but would like to? Maybe you have never played before but would like to give it a try? This program is for everyone who would like to get some exercise while having fun playing volleyball. This group would adhere to a clear set of rules (modified USVBA rules) and would expect clean play and competition. Register and join anytime during the season.

Pickleball is this country's fastest growing sport so join us now to learn how to play and be a part of this growing sports trend! This is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn and develop their skills quickly. It is played with a paddle and plastic balls with holes in them which will be provided for this program. So just come along and join in the fun!

Introduction to Dog Training

Come join a fun introductory training class for dogs. We will cover behaviors including sit, down, stay, come and walking on leash. All dogs should be current on all of their vaccinations and proof of such will be required prior to the start of class. No dogs with aggression issues please.

Woodbury Baseball & Softball 5K

"XC 5K at the Hollow" will be a fun activity available to all participants and supporters of our program. It's a 5K race/walk and a Kids Run for the little ones. We'll mix in some baseball themes and prizes and all enjoy a (hopefully) warm Sunday in April as we get ready for the season.
