Hurricane Florence Book Drive
Community service is an important component in a Bright education. There will be several community service projects that will involve all students this year, and the first is a book drive for children in North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Florence. We are teaming up again with Destinee's Gift, a nonprofit started last year by the family of first grader Destinee Harris after Hurricane Harvey. Last year, we sent more than 1,400 books to the Houston area. Please bring gently-used children's books to school between today and October 12. Collection bins will be placed in each classroom.
School Picture Day is Wednesday
Each child will have his or her picture taken Wednesday morning by Lifetouch. All students (except JPK) wear uniforms. These pictures will be used in the yearbook, and families may order picture packages from Lifetouch. You may order pictures in advance with an order form your child will bring home or online at any time. You will receive a picture proof in a few weeks, and retakes for anyone absent on Wednesday or needing a retake will be on October 18. The picture day ID is OS018139Q0.
Charleston Wrap Ends Next Monday
Thank you to everyone who has already registered on the Charleston Wrap website and sold items. This is the Parents' Association's largest fundraiser of the year. The sale ends at 3 p.m. on October 1. Proceeds will go toward purchasing new furniture for all the first grade classrooms.

There are lots of great prizes. The top-seller prizes are a $200 Visa gift card, cooking class from Dish T'Pass and a really big hedgehog bean bag.

The school encourages online sales, but you may use the order form in the packet your child brought home last Monday. The school ID is z-11323. Turn in the coupons on the bottom of the prize poster to the office each time you reach a sales goal. Questions? Contact PA chairs Lucy Sawrie or Mary Catherine Robbins.
Volunteers for Waste Less Wednesdays
Waste Less Wednesdays encourage students to waste less food and make good choices at lunch by only taking the foods and amounts they will eat. This initiative began last year as a project of the Green Team and science lessons on composting in partnership with the dining hall staff and the Parents' Association. The PA is seeking parents to volunteer during the lunch hours to help children select foods and make sure they get the right amount. Lunch for grades PK-5 is held from 10:45 a.m. to about 12:45 p.m. To sign to be a volunteer, please use this link . Questions? Contact Dorothy Caplenor at [email protected].
Parent Conferences This Week
The Parent Portal is now open to schedule parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, September 27, and Friday, September 28. September 27 is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. for students. There is no school on September 28.

Click this  link  to access the Parent Portal. To schedule a conference, select "Student Profile" along the top menu. This will take you to a new page. Along the left side menu you will see Teacher Conferences. Once you select this, you will see the options for conference times.

For multiple children, toggle between your children's names in the top right corner to schedule a time for each of their teachers. Students in grades 4-5 will have additional days and times available due to teachers meeting with the entire grade level.
Bright Afternoons for Conference Days
Bright Afternoons is open on the half day and full day of parent conferences. Please fill out and return this form by the end of today to reserve your child's spot.

Parents may drop off children during their conference time only and pick up immediately afterward for no charge. Drop off and pick up at the ECC front desk.
Annual Volleyball Game is Thursday
The fifth grade and faculty volleyball game is Thursday at 10 a.m. before dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

Cheer on your favorite team in person or watch live on Facebook.
