Just Follow

“Follow me,” Jesus said,
and Matthew left his tax booth
and walked with Jesus.
He didn’t know where they were going.

Others were walking, too—
James and John,
Peter and Andrew,
Mary (there must have been a Mary),
and other women, unnamed.
It didn’t matter where they were going.

All along the way, Jesus called out, “Follow me.”
Some left their tasks and joined the walk.
Others turned away in sorrow.

They walked along on dusty roads,
Listening and talking, questioning and learning,
Singing and praying, hearts full of joy and compassion,
Witnessing miracles, changed forever.

Today, Jesus walks along busy streets
and calls to us, “Follow me.”

“Walk with me in the countryside, in the inner city.
Walk with me in places of joy and places of sorrow.
Leave your preconceived notions, your five-year strategies.
Set down your anger and your prejudices,
And see the world as I see it.
It doesn’t matter where we are going,
Just follow me.”

On February 18, you will again have an opportunity to join your fellow church members to help package 10,152 meals for the starving through Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now). The cost to our church will be $2,944.08 or 29 cents per meal (each meal serves 6 people). We will need 50+ people to work on an assembly-line in Fellowship Hall right after our church. Come to church, have a light lunch with your friends, then stay until about 2:30 pm so you can participate in the fight against hunger. Last year we were able to bless 61,912 hungry people in Haiti by filling their empty stomachs. PTL!

795 million people worldwide do not have enough food to lead a healthy, active life. Together, we can help end hunger in our community and around the world! Join Pastor Clark as he walks from Palmetto, across the Green Bridge and back on Sunday, February 25th at
