may 2017 District Governor Message
Hello, friends -

Yes, it's still April! The month of April is always very special to me as 43 years ago, I was given an opportunity to come to this land of freedom and opportunity! For that, I am always grateful. I'm also grateful to share some news about life in our Legacy District with you.

Many of us enjoyed the 2017 Rotary World Peace Conference in Ann Arbor on March 31 and April 1. The weekend was a big success with almost 700 participants from 20 countries. Not only was our District on the donor list of this event but we even had more than 27 participants including many of our youth.

For Rotary International, April is Maternal and Child Health Month. Our District is proud to have had a Vocational Training Need Assessment Team led by Past District Governor Gary Newton, his wife, Debbie, a Certified Nurse Midwife, and Rotarian Pat Serio from Oberlin visit Mongolia in January to explore helping hospitals and schools improve training for midwives. This team has been busy developing a significant global grant for the next Rotary year with a total budget of more than $200,000. We hope to raise a maximum of $60,000 within our District.

The leaders of our District, DGE Deb Cheney and District Trainer Ken Robinson, are also very busy this month to plan for our District Assembly and One Rotary Summit which will take place on April 29 at BG High School. Click HERE for more information and to register.

Next month, we will celebrate the legacy of our District at "Our Legacy District Conference." We will have great speakers, many rewards and fun activities offered at this special event that you should not miss! At the District conference you will also have an opportunity to see our booth to be displayed at the House of Friendship at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta. We have surpassed the number 100 attendants at the convention. Please check our District conference schedule HERE.

Lastly, we still have two opportunities to benefit the Rotary Foundation and the Eradication of Polio on Earth. Our Centennial Wine is still available for purchase at this link. And our END POLIO MATCHING CHALLENGE has been extended. Click HERE for more information.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our Spring Saturday Spectacular event and our Legacy District Conference.
Grateful for your support,
Do
Do K Nguyen
