Practicing Humanity
Beautiful People,
How is everyone holding up after the snow bomb cyclone? It was an especially cold week last week which makes it easy to curl up in a little ball and avoid the outdoors. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), many of you still made it out on Thursday and the whole weekend to share your practice and put your bodies in motion in either a class or a workshop, which is awesome! In addition to informing you about more workshops to come, we want to share some other fun stuff with you.

First, let's talk about Kelsey, one of the newest members of the Suryaside instructor team. Her Sunday morning gentle vinyasa class is a great way to kick off the day. Read more about her below.

The Suryaside team is extremely excited to be doing another teacher training this summer in the Dominican Republic. See the flyer below for some more information. Over the next few months, we will be peppering our social media and newsletters with photos of this paradise. We dare you not to be tempted to join us! Here are the dates for the upcoming information sessions:
  • January 20th at 3:00 pm at Dou Yoga
  • January 26th at 6:30 pm at Suryaside Yoga
  • February 2nd at 8:00 pm at Hosh Yoga
Early Bird Deadline: February 15, 2018

Speaking of teacher training, we want to congratulate the most recent graduating class! See a photo below of these hard working folks and the instructors who helped them get there.

As for workshops, this Saturday, Renee will be leading a prenatal yoga class for expecting moms to learn how to navigate their changing bodies.

Next week will also kick off our kids' yoga semester starting on 11 January and running until 15 March. The class is suited for ages 5-7. There is still time to sign up!

Towards the end of the month, Irina will conduct a mommy and me class. Come practice with your baby in a calm and supporting environment in the studio. The class welcomes babies as young as 4 weeks up to crawlers.
Sign up for our workshops here or in person

Finally, we have included some photos from the Suryaside holiday party below!

As always, if interested in getting free yoga classes in exchange for work study hours, you can easily apply  here  to join our team.

Peace and Love,
The Suryaside Team
Kelsey is a NYC transplant from Austin, Texas who serendipitously found her way to the city over 3 years ago. Since then, she has been pursuing two things she loves: music and movement (yoga). She partially credits her love of movement to her mother who has been practicing yoga for over 40 years (even with Kelsey in the womb). According to Kelsey, yoga is a continuous learning process that shows us how to live with grace, humility, compassion and strength. She describes her style as "honey flow" where students are encouraged to tune into the whisperings of their own bodies, observing the intricacies of their own movements. When not teaching yoga, Kelsey is a singer-songwriter. She loves marrying her love of music and yoga by curating a playlist to the theme, energy and movements of her classes. The mixture of good tunes and Kelsey's calming and reflective demeanor make everyone feel welcome. Come visit her on Sunday mornings at 10:15am for Gentle Vinyasa.

Kelsey holds a 200-hour Teacher Training from Dou Yoga with Yuuki Hirano, Ariel Kiley & David Silverberg. She also specializes in Hatha Flow.
