From the Founder of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day:

My and Angela's travels around the world over these 20 years, at the invitation of Tai Chi and Qigong teachers and organizations who host WTCQD events ... has resulted in us meeting, perhaps more Tai Chi and Qigong teachers than anyone else on this planet .

I just felt compelled to say that Tai Chi and Qigong people are the most delightful and interesting people on the planet ... open minded and curious ... open hearted and interested in the common good.

If I were rich and could just travel for pleasure, not waiting for invitations and sponsorship from Tai Chi and Qigong groups and organizations ... my travels, our travels, would be so much less than they are when being the guests of Tai Chi and Qigong people.

Science shows that Tai Chi makes the brain larger, and that meditation practices can "shrink the stress/fear part of the brain" while INCREASING the size of the Empathy and Compassion parts of the brain ... and my travels make me certain that this is the case with the moving Meditation of Tai Chi and the Qigong Meditations we practice.

Before World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, interaction between different schools and different styles of Tai Chi and Qigong was much more limited. As we have begun to see ourselves as a Tai Chi and Qigong family, we have learned that there is much more "similarity," then there is difference between us. In fact, about 10 years after WTCQD began the grandmasters of the 5 major styles: Wu, Yang, Chen, Wu Hao, and Sun came together and announced that "all" styles of Tai Chi offer the same benefits, and the Chen grandmaster announced that all Tai Chi styles "reel silk," sharing that Wave Hands Like Clouds in the Yang style is indeed a form of silk reeling.

Over nearly 20 years of organizing World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, we have had the honor of being sponsored to attend WTCQD events all over the world in Australia, Asia, Africa, and North and South America.

These travels have opened our eyes to the reality that humanity is much closer, much more similar, than different. Our recent trip to Tunis, Tunisia in North Africa last month was very enlightening in this regard.

One of the fellow Tai Chi players we met was an international attorney. Like me, she had attended religious school as a child. Growing up in Kansas, I had attended Sunday School, Bible School, Catechism, etc. She, growing up in Tunisia, had attended an Islamic Studies School as a child.

From her I learned that one of the "most mentioned persons" in the Qur'an (Koran), the Islamic holy book ... is Mary, the mother of Jesus (mentioned 34 times in the Qur'an.) In fact, Jesus is mentioned 25 times in the Qur'an, while Muhammad is only mentioned by name 4 times. Moses, who is at the center of Judaism, and was mentioned all the time in my Sunday School and Bible studies, is mentioned 136 times in the Qur'an. Fascinating, isn't it? How similar we are to one another.

I also learned a bit more about Sufism and Rumi on my travels. Rumi is a world famous Islamic mystic poet, who is often seen as a founding force in Sufism, a mystical form of Islam. Rumi believed that ALL people have direct access to the divine: Muslims, Christians, Jews, and everyone else.

Before traveling to Tunis, we had seen Sufi dancers perform in the videos of the World Tai Chi & Qigong Day event in Cairo, Egypt. The more I learned about them, the more I saw a real similarity to Tai Chi and Qigong. When one first starts learning Sufi dancing, or Tai Chi, or Qigong, it is a very mental/mechanical effort. But, as we flow through our forms dozens, hundreds, thousands of times ... the movements become automatic, and this frees our minds to drift deeply into the pure experience, a field of awareness that changes the brain waves and fosters a meditative experience ... where we are not in control ... but flowing.

These nearly 20 years of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day organizing, left us realizing just how similar the Tai Chi and Qigong family is, in all the petals that make up this flower of Internal Arts. We found that when we ventured beyond our school ... our style ... out into the Tai chi and Qigong world ... all of us deal with the same things, and share similar experiences.

These 20 years of venturing out, and meeting the world, has left us in awe of just how close the human family really is to one another. The headlines in the news make us think we are so different, so far apart from one another ... but when we travel to nations you only see the worst of on TV ... what we find are human beings, driving on freeways, rushing to work, worrying about bills, dropping their kids off at school ... and some are doing Tai Chi and Qigong for fun :-)

I see skies of blue,
And clouds of white.
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow,
So pretty in the sky.
Are also on the faces,
Of people going by,
I see friends shaking hands.
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying,
"I love you".

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more,
Than I'll ever know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Oh yeah.

-- Louis Armstrong, What a Wonderful World

Your task is not to seek love,
but merely to seek and find
all the barriers within yourself
that you have built against it.

-- Rumi

Bill. I think your book is about sharing
your experiences
of consciousness that
have come about from Tai Chi
bringing something that was dormant within you.

Very
few Tai Chi teachers share their experiences from the
art and this sets
your book apart. Your personal
experiences echo the teachings of great spiritual
masters and I find that fascinating.
-- Steve, Tai Chi teacher

WHY SUPPORT OUR HEALTH & HEALING EFFORTS?
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day brings the world together for health & healing ...

Tai Chi and Qigong have become household words in the last years. World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's #1 goal has been to educate the mass public about the health and life benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong, and our work has profoundly contributed to this growing global awareness of Tai Chi & Qigong.

"Our Tai Chi programs continue to grow
and our numbers of Tai Chi Schools continue
to grow at a phenomenal rate and I feel your
efforts are fueling this growth worldwide
and we are all in awe of what the
World Tai Chi & Qigong Day has done."
-- Dave Pickens
National Chairman Chinese Martial Arts Division
United States Amateur Athletic Union

HOW DID WE DO IT?

1st we organized Tai Chi and Qigong groups worldwide to hold mass Tai Chi & Qigong exhibitions and teach-ins around the world, all on the same day, in a worldwide wave.

2nd, we created the Medical Research Library at WorldTaiChiDay.org to educate Tai Chi and Qigong teachers about the growing medical research on Tai Chi and Qigong health benefits and how it treats many major health issues.

3rd, we taught Tai Chi and Qigong groups worldwide on how to contact and work with local, regional, and national media, to cover their World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events, and then how to use that media exposure as a vehicle to educate the world about the medical research on Tai Chi and Qigong.

4th, we taught Tai Chi and Qigong groups worldwide how to work with local and national government officials and agencies, to proclaim Tai Chi and Qigong's benefits for their city, province, state, and nations' citizens.

5th, we taught Tai Chi and Qigong groups worldwide how to utilize Official Proclamations on their WTCQD events, to gain media and public exposure and recognition.

6th, we compiled video and photos of events worldwide to create mini-documentaries that groups could share worldwide to get even more Tai Chi and Qigong groups involved in World Tai Chi & Qigong Day.

TOGETHER, WE ARE CHANGING THE WORLD ...

"Your organizing of this global event
has been very helpful in gaining media
attention for the benefits of Qi Gong &
Tai Chi and in creating awareness of
our school and classes."
-- Howard Fraracci - Qi Gong teacher
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

HOW DO YOU INSPIRE TAI CHI & QIGONG GROUPS WORLDWIDE?
WORLD EVENTS DO NOT BUILD THEMSELVES
It takes a huge amount of work, a vision that you hold onto even when times are tough, and some artistry

17 years of receiving and gathering videos and photos from World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events, inspired us to create video montages and libraries of past events. WHY?

To inspire more and more Tai Chi and Qigong groups worldwide to organize and hold World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events around the world. In the beginning, our events were mostly the US, Canada, and Europe.

Then, Hong Kong joined in, and events spread across Asia. Then Egypt held mass events, and events have spread across Africa. Brazilia, Brazil's early work inspired groups all across Latin America. New Zealand and Australia have held events all over their nations.

THIS IS A TON OF WORK, A LABOR OF LOVE, WE HAVE GIVEN THE WORLD FOR 17 YEARS NOW.
