WorldChicago Seeks Homestay Host for FLEX Student

Host Inga from Moldova for all or part of the 2012-2013 academic year!  WorldChicago is seeking a host family ASAP for a student from Moldova who will be attending high school at Lindblom Math & Science Academy, one of Chicago's selective enrollment public schools.

 

Inga, 17, is from the small town of Bender, Moldova where she lives with her parents and brother. She enjoys participating in drama, debate club, and youth service clubs, and she just completed piano and vocal training. Inga is enthusiastic about sharing her culture with her new friends and host family in the United States!

 

The FLEX program provides an opportunity for high school students from Eastern Europe and Central Asia to live in the United States for one year. WorldChicago is honored to be hosting 5 of these superb students! Read more here

Description: WorldChicago needs your help!  We are seeking school and host family placements for a student from Moldova. She will arrive in August to live in Chicagoland for an academic year through the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program. FLEX is the U.S. Department of State's flagship youth exchange, with a 20-year legacy of promoting understanding between the U.S. and Eurasia.

 

What makes FLEX students unique?

  • Students are carefully selected from a pool of 47,000 applicants across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
  • Students are fluent in English. 
  • Students demonstrate excellence in character, community service, and academics.
  • As alumni, students become leaders in their communities and countries.

WorldChicago- Shanghai Economic Management College Professional Fellowships

Does your company already do work in China or are you hoping to do work in China in the future?  If so, consider hosting a manager-level professional from Shanghai in your company!  Your employees will gain a better understanding of Chinese business practices and build a relationship with a Chinese industry professional without actually traveling to China!

 

Description:  Eight manager level professionals from Shanghai, China will participate in a Professional Fellowship Program with Chicago-area businesses coordinated by WorldChicago, in cooperation with the Shanghai Economic Management College and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Shanghai Municipal Government.

IVLPINTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM & MEAL HOSPITALITY REQUESTS

International Visitor Leadership Program:

Description: This U.S. Department of State program identifies foreign leaders in a variety of fields to visit the U.S. for 3 weeks (visiting 3-5 cities) to meet their professional counterparts, explore their thematic interest area(s), and experience America firsthand. These visitors stay in hotels.    

 

If you are interested in meeting with these visitors professionally and/or socially for meals in your home, please contact John Baum at (312) 254-1800 x100 or jbaum@worldchicago.org to request these opportunities (please note that not all requests may be met due to scheduling conflicts and programming goals).  Priority for meal hosting is given to current WorldChicago members.

WorldChicago will host a public forum for a delegation of teens on the U.S. Department of State sponsored Iraqi-US Young Leaders Program.  Participants will spend a week in Chicago living with homestay families and exploring the themes of volunteerism, citizenship, democracy, and cross-cultural friendship and understanding.  Based on their experiences in Chicago, come hear how they will use what they have learned to effect change in their communities.  Q & A to follow.   

 

Continental breakfast will be provided.

OTHEROTHER INTERNATIONAL EVENT AROUND TOWN

CNT Energy Seeks Housing for Fellow from Nepal 

CNT Energy, a nonprofit environmental group in Chicago, will be hosting a Community Leadership Fellow from Nepal, Angel Chitrakar, for four months beginning in August. Mr. Chitrakar will arrive in Chicago on August 3, and will need housing by August 7.  He will be in Chicago for 4 months. 

Mr. Chitrakar's program is sponsored by the US Department of State.  He is a professional with a graduate degree and 6+ years of work experience in rural sustainable development.  He is receiving a stipend, and so can pay his own expenses. His contact information is angel@ecca.org.np.
