"In selecting the work for this exhibition I wanted to find a unique voice or vision of each photographer while also creating a show that is cohesive and works as a whole.  Although the theme of the exhibition could have led to distinctive landscapes, cityscapes or other iconography as the focal points of images, I felt strongly that, with our current world events, it was the people I wanted to emphasize.   These artists have succeeded in taking us on a visual journey where they are exploring their own cultural curiosity, finding wonder and amazement in the scenes they witness, and mapping a path through an artistic documentation of what they have found." - Curator, Jeff Stevenson, Gallery Director, Governors State University

We will also delight in a special slideshow presentation by WorldChicago volunteers traveling through Japan, Taiwan and Vladivostok, Russia, this fall.

Second Annual Global Wake-Up Film Festival

Friday, November 30 & Saturday, December 1, 2012

Columbia College Chicago

Global Wake-Up, a free festival, is sponsored by the Chicago chapter of the United Nations Association and celebrates the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals.  The two-day celebration will bring the audience face-to-face with issues affecting people both at home and around the world through film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions.  Last year's program featured more than 40 screenings and welcomed about 400 attendees to grow awareness and action through film and the literary arts.  The Festival's 2012 theme of Changemakers encourages filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, volunteers, and activists to take action and make an impact in global issues of peace, food security, development, gender equality, and the environment.
