WorldChicago seeks homestay hosts for youth leaders (ages 15-18) from Iraq, Mexico and the UK coming to Chicago!

 

Get to know Iraqi geography - host youth delegates from Baghdad, Basrah, Erbil, Najaf and Sulaymania.   

   

Practice your Arabic with... 

 

Jengiz is a 17 year old boy from Erbil who loves playing sports (soccer, basketball, baseball) and eating pizza, spaghetti, and barbecue. He wants his host family to know that he is a fun, nice guy with no bad habits and no allergies to pets.

 

OR    

 

Hassan is a 17 year old boy from Baghdad who likes cats and dogs and loves swimming and fast food. He looks forward to living with a host family and having a great time!

 

Practice your Spanish with...

Ayumi is a 17 year old girl from Puebla, Mexico. She enjoys music and swimming. Her favorite types of food are spaghetti and salad. She has learned the values of service and solidarity through her family's Japanese heritage.

 

OR

 

Alexa is a 16 year old girl from Puebla, Mexico. In her spare time she likes to read, sing and dance. Her favorite type of food is lasagna. Alexa volunteers at a community center and residence for senior citizens.

 

Don't worry though if you don't speak Arabic or Spanish; all of the youth delegates are fluent in English!

Summer 2012 Youth Leadership Programs

 

Description: This summer, WorldChicago is recruiting up to 40 Chicago-area host families for 1-2 week youth leadership programs in July and August.  The youth, who speak English fluently, have been selected from a pool of thousands to be young ambassadors for their country. Join us in welcoming them for a very memorable summer in Chicago!

 

United Kingdom Youth Dialogue Program

Wednesday, July 11 - Friday, July 20

Mexico J�venes en Acci�n Program

Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program

Sunday, July 22 - Friday, August 3

8 Iraqi youth, 4 U.S. youth (from Vermont and Montana), and 1 Iraqi adult chaperone will visit Chicago to explore civic activism and leadership development. To learn more, please contact Anita Daniel at  daniel@worldchicago.org 312-254-1800 x 107.

 

What we need: Host families provide a bed (can be a shared room) and most breakfasts and dinners, while WorldChicago provides daily activities, lunches, phones, and transportation passes.

 

FLEXHOST A HIGH SCHOOL EXCHANGE STUDENT FOR THE 2012-2013 ACADEMIC YEAR  

Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program: Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine

Description: WorldChicago is excited to place 5 FLEX Program students in Chicago-area homes for the upcoming academic year!  The Future Leaders Exchange Program provides an opportunity for high school students from Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to experience life as a student in the United States. These young people live with host families, attend local schools, engage in volunteer work, and educate Americans about their countries and cultures. FLEX students are among the very best and brightest in their countries and are fluent in English.

 

Host Manas, 17, from Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan who has a broad range of interests, including horseback riding, cooking, soccer, aikido, modern dance, American pop music, and mystery novels.

 

Host Polina, 15, from Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine, an aspiring doctor whose hobbies include gymnastics, reading, cooking, photography, and exploring nature.

 

Host Olga, 16, from Ozersk, Russia who plays the accordion and electronic piano and who wants to improve her English skills so she may someday be a translator.

SHANGHAIWORLDCHICAGO-SHANGHAI ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT COLLEGE MANAGER FELLOWSHIPS - CHICAGO FELLOWSHIP HOSTS REQUESTED    

WorldChicago- Shanghai Economic Management College Manager Fellowships 

 

Chicago Dates: Septmeber-December, 2012 (exact dates TBD)

 

Description:  Eight professionals from Shanghai, China will participate in a Manager Fellowship, or internship program, with Chicago-area businesses coordinated by WorldChicago, in cooperation with the Shanghai Economic Management College and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Shanghai Municipal Government. Following two successful internship programs in 2011 and 2010, these internships offer the opportunity to establish business relationships between Chicago and Shanghai companies.

IVLPINTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM & MEAL HOSPITALITY REQUESTS

International Visitor Leadership Program:

Description: This U.S. Department of State program identifies foreign leaders in a variety of fields to visit the U.S. for 3 weeks (visiting 3-5 cities) to meet their professional counterparts, explore their thematic interest area(s), and experience America firsthand. These visitors stay in hotels.

WorldChicago will host a public forum for a delegation of teens on the U.S. Department of State sponsored Iraqi-US Young Leaders Program.  Participants will spend a week in Chicago living with homestay families and exploring the themes of volunteerism, citizenship, democracy, and cross-cultural friendship and understanding.  Based on their experiences in Chicago, come hear how they will use what they have learned to effect change in their communities.  Q & A to follow.   

 

Continental breakfast will be provided.
