ALI Coalition Spotlight: Tony Barash (2010) is using writing to bring an end to gang violence. Mr. Barash helped launch ConTextos, a literacy program designed to increase empathy and self-reflection, in El Salvador and has recently expanded the program to Cook County Jail in Chicago. Thuli Madonsela (2017) is moving South Africa toward sustainable socio-economic inclusivity. Ms. Madonsela's foundation will launch the World Day of Social Justice campaign to improve access to social justice in communities across the country.
 
Mary Jo Meisner (2017) is strengthening the skills of Massachusetts youth and adults. Governor Charlie Baker appointed Ms. Meisner to the board of the Commonwealth Corporation, the state's primary vehicle for designing and executing workforce development programs.
 
Brett Perlman (2016) is raising awareness about immigration issues in Houston. As President and CEO of the Center for Houston's Future, Mr. Perlman helped produce three short videos on these issues, including a most recent video on the impact of Hurricane Harvey.
 
Judy Perry Martinez (2015) says the ABA must "trumpet the essential values of our democracy." As the president-elect of the ABA, Ms. Perry Martinez shared her vision for the organization's future at the 2018 Midyear Meeting.
