XTERRA POINTS SERIES UPDATES
August is the last month of regular season racing in the XTERRA America Tour and the chase for points in pursuit of winning a regional championship is getting hot.
There are four races on tap this weekend with XTERRA DINO Logansport in Indiana (read preview), XTERRA Portland featuring big names like IM Australia Champ Luke McKenzie and Beth Walsh, XTERRA Lory will host the always-strong Colorado contingent and XTERRA STOAKED will serve as a family gathering for Brent Bieshaar in race No. 20 in his XTERRA Across America journey.

XTERRA Black Diamond (8/4)
Former age group national champion Mathieu Signoretty picked up his second overall win of the season and swept the Washington XTERRA races (he won Vashon Island last month).� The same holds true for women’s winner Solana Kline.�

XTERRA Appalachia (8/4)
Alex Modestou continues to impress, picking up his fourth overall win of the year (to go with victories at the XTERRA East and Mountain Championships, plus EX2).� It was another tight duel with regional foe Daryl Weaver, a race that was decided by less than a minute (read Alex’s race story).� In the women’s race April Nabholz picked up her first XTERRA victory. She won the Senior 19-29 USA Cycling Cross Country mountain bike national title last month.

XTERRA Snow Valley (7/27)
Neilson Powless, the defending XTERRA amateur world champion, scored a convincing win at the XTERRA Snow Valley Triathlon at the Snow Valley Resort in Running Springs, Calif.
Powless, a junior at Roseville High School, completed the course in 2 hours, 15 seconds – which was nearly five minutes ahead of the rest of the field. He took the lead with the fastest bike split of the day (1:03:42), then posted the second-fastest run split (41:47).
XTERRA pro Rachel Challis from Carlsbad, Calif., placed 12th overall and was the top female with a time of 2:21:23. She took the lead early and never relented. Her swim time of 14:09 was the fourth best among all competitors (male and female).
Powless, along with his sister Shayna, were just selected to represent the U.S. at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in South Africa later this month.

XTERRA Indian Peaks Triathlon (7/27)
XTERRA pros Cody Waite from Denver and Jaime Brede from Breckenridge, Colo., took top honors at the XTERRA Indian Peaks Triathlon, which was staged at the Eldora Mountain Resort in Nederlands, Colo.
Waite, who is currently ranked No. 9 on the XTERRA U.S.� Pro Series, finished first overall with a time of 1:49:41. He came out of the swim in eighth place, but quickly took the lead in the bike and finished with the best bike split of the day (1:00:49). It is the second consecutive year that he took top overall honors at Indian Peaks.
Fellow XTERRA pro Will Kelsay was second overall in 1:53:42, and Joshua Merrick was third in 1:55:31.
Brede, who is ranked No. 12 on the XTERRA U.S. Women’s Pro Series, topped the women’s field with a time of 2:08:11. She also made her move to the front on the bike, posting a split of 1:09:57.
Maia Ignatz placed second, and Kathy Waite – wife of overall winner Cody – placed third.

XTERRA Les Bois Triathlon (7/27)
Chris Ganter made the most of his hometown race by capturing first place at the XTERRA Les Bois Triathlon at Boise, Idaho.
Ganter, an XTERRA pro currently ranked No. 14 in the U.S. Pro Series, completed the course in 2:18:08. He trailed by more than four minutes coming out of the swim, but more than made up for it by posting the fastest splits of the day in both the bike (1:16:38) and run (34:07).
Eventual runner-up Guy Crawford actually had the lead after the bike, but Ganter passed him early on the run course. Crawford placed second in 2:20:05, and Jeff Smith was third in 2:24:45.
In the women’s division, Erin Green made an impressive XTERRA debut with a convincing victory. This was her first off-road triathlon, and she finished it in 2:56:58, which was more than 13 minutes ahead of the other females.

XTERRA Wild Horse Creek Triathlon (7/28)
Home-state Montana competitors Jesse Carnes and Laura Holien ran away to impressive victories at the XTERRA Wild Horse Creek Triathlon, which was held near Bozeman, Montana.
Carnes, who is from Missoula, finished first overall with a time of 2:14:17. He was already up by a minute out of the swim, then increased his lead by posting the fastest bike split of the day (1:13:44). His overall time was more than 10 minutes ahead of the rest of the field.
Holien, who is from Helena, was even more dominant in the women’s field. �Her overall time of 2:46:17 was more than 14 minutes faster than the other females. Like Carnes, Holien posted the fastest splits for the swim and bike.
