Welcome to the first edition of Y Connect, our new monthly newsletter designed to keep you in the loop on all the great things happening at the Geneva Lakes Family YMCA.  

As we wrap up summer and look towards fall, you'll see that we've got a full line-up of programs and events in store for you.  We invite you to check them out in our Fall Program Guide. Member and community registration for the Fall I session is now underway.

We also invite you to explore ways in which you can join our cause for strengthening the community -- Give, Join, Participate in Programs and/or Volunteer!  Everyone has a role to play.  Together, we can achieve so much more!

You're Invited:  YMCA Fall Open House & School Supply Drive 
Friday, August 22 - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Y is SO MUCH MORE than just a gym.  Come "See Y" at our free community open house and school supply drive.  

Join us at the Y for fun activities, refreshments and chances to win prizes, including Y memberships, programs and tickets to exciting events and attractions. Donate school supplies to help local families in need.  Event highlights include:

  • Live broadcast by WLKG 96.1 FM - Donate 5 school supplies, receive a free ticket to events & attractions. Backpacks are desperately needed!  (Tickets will be distributed on a 1st come 1st served basis.)   
  • $0 Joiner fee when you take a tour and join the Y.  
  • Check out Y facility improvements and line-up of new fall programs.  
  • The first 50 people will receive a free t-shirt.

Spotlight on New Fall Programs
In response to community demand, the Y is pleased to offer several exciting new programs this fall in addition to your existing favorites.  Some include:
  • School Day Out Camps:  No school?  No problem!  YMCA Day Out, Early Release & Emergency Snow Day camps for 4K-5th graders are designed to give busy families peace of mind when Lake Geneva Schools are not in session. Activities will include swimming, gym games, art & crafts & more. See our camp page for full details & a registration packet. The first Early Release Camp offered will be on Sept 11 (not listed in program guide).  The first Day Out Camp will be Oct. 24.
  • Girls Travel Basketball (Grades 4-8):  This new league will offer girls a competitive basketball experience in the Walworth County Travel League.  Program emphasizes skills, teamwork & sportsmanship.  Teams are organized by grade.  Volunteer coaches needed.  Practices start in Sept. Games begin in Oct. Fee:  Members $40 / Community: $60 
  • Co-Ed Youth Dodge Ball (Ages 8-12):  Dodge, dip, dive and duck on Fridays at the Y from 4:30-5:45 pm.  Burn energy, belly laugh & build teamwork skills in this 8-week recreational league. Two sessions available.  Fee/session:  Members $32 / Community $48.  Combine with Co-Ed Floor Hockey on Monday nights from 4:30-5:30 pm for even more fun! Download your registration formor pick one up at the Y.
  • Family Laser Tag Nights (6 yrs - adult):  The Y and Wisconsin Battlefield Live are teaming up to offer these action-packed events in the Y gym.  Upcoming dates:  Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, Dec. 12.  Time:  5:30-7:30 pm.  Fee:  $5/round, $20/5 rounds.  No preregistration required. 
  • Family Circuit Training (ages 8+):  Parents, partner up with your kids for this fun, 45-minute interval training circuit class.  This 8-week program offers a total body workout with resistance & cardio training using a variety of family-friendly exercises & equipment.  All children must be accompanied by an adult. Wednesdays, Sept. 2 - Oct. 26 from 5:30-6:15 pm.  Fee:  Members $20/family; Community $32/family. 
  • SilverSneakers Splash:  A unique water exercise program designed for seniors & those with arthritis to keep joints flexible, muscles strong & to relieve pain & stiffness.  Held in the warm water activity pool. See page 12 of the program guide for pricing and session dates.

Fall II Session Dates:  Oct. 27 - Dec. 21 (8 weeks) - Member registration beings 9/29; community registration starts 10/6.

Free Swim Team Trial Night:  Friday, Sept. 5 - 5:00 p.m.
Introduce your kids to the benefits of competitive swimming this fall!  Our Geneva Y Swim Team (GYST) coaches will be on deck to offer a fun & free trial practice.  Skills will be evaluated, & swimmers will be placed into the appropriate team levels.  The GYST fall season runs Sept. 8 - Nov. 9.  New team members must be able to swim at least two, 25-yard swims using front & back crawl.  Previous knowledge of breaststroke and butterfly is recommended, but not required. See page 8 of the program guide for more swim team information.

"YMCA PAY THE DAY"  Fall Membership Special:

Join the YMCA in September & we'll adjust the Joiner Fee according to the day you join!  For example, if start your membership on Sept. 3, your joiner fee is just $3!  The sooner you join, the more you'll save.  Tell your friends!
YMCA Children's Swim Suit Drive:  Sept. 2 - 21  

Kids outgrowing their summer swim suits?  Please save & donate them to the Y in September! We'll accept your gently used or a new swim suits, & give them to children who participate in our
swim lessons or SPLASH program but can't afford the proper pool attire.
New Parking Lot Installation Week of Aug. 25

Good news! The Y's getting a new parking lot!  We'll send out a separate communication outlining the timeline & details on where you'll need to park during the week of construction. We apologize that you may experience some parking inconveniences during this week, but I think we'll all find that it's well worth it in the end!  We thank you in advance for your patience as we make this important property upgrade.  Cheers to no more potholes!
