We Want Your Feedback!
New Cardio Equipment for Nir Family YMCA
Do you use the cardio equipment at the Express Y? If so, we want to hear from you!
We are preparing for our big move to the Nir Family YMCA and have important decisions to make regarding the type, brand, and quantities of cardio equipment to purchase for our new Y! Those of you able to attend our Community Vision Tour last month have seen first-hand how much more space we'll have in our wellness areas. We anticipate adding about 40% more cardio equipment to the new Y, nearly all of which will be brand new!
That's why we need your help! Please give us your input on what kind of equipment you'd like to have in our new Y by taking a brief survey.
Thank you for your input, we appreciate your feedback!

Presurgery Advice from Momentum PT and Wellness...
Physical Therapy before Surgery Often Leads to Better Outcomes
“Better in, better out.” That’s the idea behind physical therapy and exercise prior to surgery. There is strong evidence to suggest that performing exercise routines and physical therapy prior to general or orthopedic surgery improves surgical results and speeds recovery. These programs, often called “pre-habilitation,” consist of basic exercises aimed at improving strength and flexibility to prepare muscles and joints for the demands following surgery. In addition, these programs also help educate patients on what to expect following surgery, such as using a walker or cane. With stronger and more flexible muscles and joints, and with education on what to expect, patients are less fearful, more prepared and recover faster.

Employee Spotlight
Name:
Allon Nir
Branch:
Express Y
Job Title:
Front Desk Greeter
How long have you been with the Y?
Just over 10 years
What's your favorite thing about working for the Y
?
There are so many reasons why I love my job. If I could pick only one thing, it’s the enjoyment I get socializing with the Y members. I love seeing their happy faces
What's your Y story?
I needed a place to fit in and to meet people, so I joined the Y. I met a nice person on my first day at the Y, who became a friend - and then continued to meet more and more nice members who were fun to interact with. When I moved to Wilmington, I didn’t have any friends. I started taking my mom’s (Dalia Nir) exercise class. Soon after, Dick Jones (the Y CEO) recommended I volunteer greeting at the front desk. Since I was already working part time, I was a bit reluctant, but I gave it a try in April of 2007. Well, almost a year later, and lucky for me, a front desk greeter position was opened. Long story short, I was hired and began working. My first day- and I still remember it clearly- was Wednesday, March 26th 2008. The rest is history...
What would I like members to know about you?
In my spare time I enjoy cross training exercise, reading, writing, spending time with my family, acting (I am part of an acting troupe for people with special needs), comedy and performing stand-up comedy at the Dead Crow for open-mic, I am a tv and movie connoisseur, I enjoy crossword puzzles, and pet sitting.
