Dr. Smith's Weekly Blog:

There is a significant difference of opinion among the major philosophies and religions of the world when it comes to the innate nature of children. The majority opinion is that children are born innately good. Christianity stands alone with the belief that children are born with a sinful nature: that they have a natural disposition (bent) to do what is wrong.

We have all seen this as parents. Our children just naturally seem to gravitate toward doing what they were told not to do. They seem to find it easy to defy us, rather than to obey us, and we have to go to great lengths to teach them to do what is right. We all understand this because we see it played out in our homes, over and over again.

The good news is that the inner nature of a child can be redirected so that he or she grows up to be more inclined toward positive behavior than negative.  However, the only way for a sinful nature to be truly transformed is through the redemptive work of Christ.

As parents and educators, we must give our children every opportunity to experience the transforming work of Christ in their lives.  Your home, your church and our school are vital partners that God works through to develop a righteous nature in your child.
