What we do:YSPP is a prevention education program that is focused on reducing youth suicidal behaviors among the youth of Washington State.
We believe that if more young people and adults knew how to recognize the warning signs for suicide, and felt competent about what to do and what to say, they could comfortably seek help for a suicidal youth, and we would prevent many of these unnecessary tragedies.

Thank you for joining the mission to prevent youth suicide attempts and deaths in Washington State!

A Team Approach to Youth Suicide Prevention
Our program "From the Classroom to the Community: A Team Approach to Youth Suicide Prevention," funded by SAMHSA under the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, is well under way.
Under the management of Liz Wilhelm, and with the help of Care Coordinators Jill teVelde and Tahni Kalina as well as numerous community partners, YSPP is working in colleges and schools in Cowlitz, Yakima, and south Pierce Counties to train community mental health, substance abuse providers, and school personnel to assess, manage, and refer treatment to youths at risk for suicide.
Together, we can recognize the warning signs in a young person, and give them the help they need to live.

Kudos for YSPP Staff
We recently got a great compliment for Kelly McDonald, YSPP King County Coordinator, who heads up Peer-to-Peer and the Teen Advisory Council.
Maleka Allen, counselor at Cedar Heights Middle School in Kent said, "Kelly is so good at what she does. She is so professional and she works great with the students. Just listening to her voice could stop you from suicide."
Thank you, Kelly, for all the great work you do!

Youth Advisory Council
YSPP is currently recruiting teens and young adults (ages 14-22) to join our Youth Advisory Council.
The Youth Advisory Council helps YSPP provide guidance on messaging and outreach to young people to help spread the word about this stigmatized issue.
The council meets Sunday afternoons. Learn more here.
If you have questions about joining, please contact Kelly McDonald at kelly@yspp.org or at (425) 286-5132.
