Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women and Art

This exhibit focuses on the prevention of violence against women and presents the work of 28 contemporary artists from 24 countries whose work addresses the issues of violence against women and girls around the world and their basic human rights to a safe and secure life. The project combines cutting-edge art with important social messaging and storytelling to help create awareness, inspiration, and address systems for positive social change and action. The museum is free and open to the public so visitors can experience the world of the GHO year-round. Since its structural expansion in 2005, the GHO continues to expand its collections and award-winning permanent and changing exhibitions.
Plan ahead and allow time for check in and parking. Driver's license is required for entry. Vehicle inspection required.
Meet in the atrium of Tom Harkin Global Communications Center at 5:30 pm to begin the tour. Immediately following the tour the group will engage in dialogue about violence against younger women. Bring a friend and do not miss this great exhibition.

May Chapter Meeting Update: Exercise, Sex, and a Mood Altering Good Time
| Our May chapter meeting was held on Saturday May 14, 2011 at Georgia Perimeter College's Clarkston campus.
To say we had fun is an understatement. We had a blast!
To honor and bring awareness to National Women's Health Week (May 8-14) our board of directors invited guest presenters who specialize in health and wellness fields. We had the pleasure of learning about the use and benefits of aromatherapy and various healing oils such as lavender, sweet orange, and myrrh from certified aromatherapist, Sandra Hicks of Be. Beautifully. Well 
We tested our sexual health knowledge, participated in an activity, learned about various forms of birth control options, the risks of prevention from contracting STIs, and the importance of safer sex practices with Chanel Jaali of Jaali Co.
We laughed, grunted, and sweated with CrossFit instructor Lauren Sandoval who was there representing CrossFit East Decatur. Lauren shared the importance of eating, living, and being healthy mentally, physically, and emotionally.
We had a blast and wish to thank our presenters, members, and guests who attended this action-packed meeting. If you missed Saturday's meeting trust us when we say you don't want to miss out next month's. We hope to see you there! . Blog Recap of May Chapter Meeting

Writers and Bloggers Wanted! We're Looking for You The Younger Women's Task Force Atlanta Chapter is looking for you! We are in need of bloggers for our Many Voices. One Force. Blog, and guest writers for our monthly newsletter. Writers and bloggers may regularly submit their work on a variety of subjects in the five core areas related to issues facing younger women in Atlanta: 1. Education 2. Women's Health 3. Environment 4. Violence against Younger Women 5. Career and Mentoring This is a great opportunity to gain exposure, present yourself as an expert in specific fields, or to refer employers to professionally published examples of your writing in order to obtain a position as a full-time, freelance, or syndicated columnist.
Is there a story, issue, cause, or event that you want to share with other women? Have you recently read an article or book about Education, Domestic Violence, Leadership, Health and Wellness, Mentoring, or Environment? Then you should consider becoming a guest writer for our blog and/or our monthly newsletter. Do you have a Facebook or Twitter account that you use frequently? You probably share several stories and headlines per week or even daily with friends and family- so consider sharing 250-350 word articles with YWTF readers a few times per month for the blog, and/or once per month for our newsletter. You don't have to be a seasoned journalist, blogger, or writer- just a passion for information and sharing it with others. The Younger Women's Task Force, a project of the National Council of Women's Organizations, is a nationwide, diverse, and inclusive grassroots movement dedicated to organizing younger women and their allies to take action on issues that matter most to them led by volunteers.
By and for younger women, Younger Women's Task Force Atlanta Metro Chapter (YWTF-ATL) works both within and beyond the women's movement, engaging all who are invested in advancing the quality of life and rights of younger women aged 20-39.
