Over 772 students from 15 Southern-California high schools stepped away from their normal school activities Friday, October 13, to embark on International Trade Education Programs' 8th annual GPS Your Future adventure.  GPS Your Future has become ITEP's signature trademark event, advocating 9th and 10th grade high school students to explore career and education opportunities. Hosted in partnership with and located on the heart of the California State University Dominguez Hills campus, this year's affair boasted the largest participation numbers to date!

Master of Ceremonies, Viviana Vigil (actress, celebrity correspondent, and host), kicked off the full-day event with the welcome orientation: "It's always so exciting to see these bright young faces really interested." And interested they were!

Students navigated through an expo hall of exhibitors representing industries from Culinary Arts/Hospitality, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Environmental, Finance, Global Logistics & Supply Chain, Government, Health, Law/Law Enforcement/Military, Trades and Utilities.

"It was a wonderful experience connecting with students," first time exhibitor and event sponsor Matthew Douglas of HSBC Bank USA, N.A. explained. "My whole team is looking forward to participating in future events with ITEP."

Eager students then steered their way to breakout sessions with guest speakers who reinforced the overall theme of "Sharing YOUR Journey with Students."

"All of the energy from the young people was great, I would absolutely participate again!" Ron Roberts Jr. of Griffith Company shared about his time speaking to students from Banning High School.

This year's event also featured an interactive area in which students had the opportunity for a hands-on learning with a Tesla Model X SUV walkthrough.

GPS Your Future expanded its  direction by introducing an outdoor interactive area promoting hands-on learning and additional fun. This innovative zone included a photo booth, DJ entertainment, games and raffles. And even though most of the students do not even have their driver's permit yet, that did not stop them from enjoying a behind the scenes experience with two Tesla Model X vehicles, learning about alternative energy vehicles.

Gustavo Mora, first time GPS guest speaker, shared his career journey and explained how he started his own law firm, the Law Offices of Gustavo Mora .

The  map for this year's success, was to  guide all of the attendees through a meaningful experience. With the focus on the students, the atmosphere was positively contagious as everyone  channeled students to  Explore, Dream, Discover.

"It [GPS Your Future] helped me think about my future and I learned new information about careers," sophomore student from Manual Arts High School affirmed.

TEAM ITEP would like to thank all  exhibitors, speakers, sponsors,
vendors and volunteers for donating their time and expertise to make a difference in the lives of ITEP students.

"I am absolutely thrilled with the work being done by TEAM ITEP," Amy Grat, ITEP's CEO, praised.

The  journey  does not stop here. Next year, we are  setting our sails  to include more industry partners and career activities. It's never too early to join the fun.  Sign up as an exhibitor, speaker or sponsor for  2018 GPS Your Future  today!
