Two Important Elections this fall will decide Yorba Linda's future.  The elections are all about density although the opposition would like to change the subject and distract voters to other issues.

Special Election - October 7.  General Election - November 4
The City of Yorba Linda is seeking Suggestions and Ideas from its residents as to the future of the West Bastanchury Site, formerly known as the future home of "Friends Christian High School."  Concurrently, the City is also inviting any and all parties interested in the possible future development of the property to submit Letters of Interest.  The deadline is Friday, September 19, at 5pm.

Part 4: The Buy Out of Yorba Linda

Many outside special interest groups have come out in opposition of the Recall and in support of Tom Lindsey and Craig Young.  They have deceptive names that would lead you to believe they represent you.  They don't.

Take for instance, the Orange County Taxpayers Association whose President, Carolyn Cavecche, is featured on one side of a recent mailer, along with Scott Baugh, the Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party.  Both officials tout the push polled lies of the Recall Opposition that recall proponents are a liberal special interest group and the recall is a huge waste of money.

So the question is: Why would the Orange County Taxpayers Association care about Yorba Linda?  When you look at who is on their Board of Directors, you find Paul Hernandez of the Irvine Company.  Paul Hernandez is the son of Yorba Linda City Councilman Gene Hernandez, who votes the same as Lindsey and Young in favor of high-density housing projects and who opposes the recall.  Gene Hernandez and Craig Young ran as a team in 2012.  Paul Hernandez is the Sr. Director of Governmental Relations, aka a political LOBBYIST, for the Irvine Company, Orange County's largest developer.  Paul Hernandez has also been a Board member of the Building Industry Association of Orange County.

It is no surprise that you see the following contributions to the OC Tax Pac Sponsored by the Orange County Taxpayers Association:

9/10/13  Irvine Company   $5,300

9/10/13  Irvine Company   $4,700

10/11/13 Irvine Company  $15,000

10/22/13 Irvine Company  $10,000

In addition, you see that other major contributors are Developers and advocates of Development:

9/10/13 CJ Segerstrom and Sons  $6800

9/10/13 CJ Segerstrom and Sons  $3200

C J Segerstrom & Sons is a major real estate company in Orange County.

6/4/14   Building Industry Association of Southern California PAC  $6,800

6/4/14   Building Industry Association of Southern California PAC  $8,200

The Building Industry Association of Southern California's (BIA) membership is made up of commercial and residential developers.  They are strong advocates for high-density development and affordable housing, because the State affordable housing mandates make cities zone for high-density housing.  By contrast, the BIA opposes inclusionary zoning laws, which require developers to put a certain percentage of affordable housing units in their projects.  More high-density housing with less or no affordable housing means more profit.  And, no affordable housing means that cities must zone for more affordable housing in the future, thus guaranteeing developers even more profits.  A representative from the BIA testified at the City Council meeting in FAVOR of the three-story Tesoro Townhomes project at Yorba Linda Boulevard and Prospect Avenue.  Mayor Craig Young reserved the first three rows for him and others testifying in favor of the project.

The Orange County Taxpayers Association should change their name to match their actions. It should be the Orange County Developers Association. And, they should stay out of the Yorba Linda Recall and Yorba Linda politics.

Say no to Developers and Political Action Committees. Vote YES on the Recall and YES for NANCY RIKEL and JEFF DECKER, your LOW-DENSITY ADVOCATES.

Reasons for Recalling Tom Lindsey and Craig Young

NOTICE OF INTENT TO CIRCULATE RECALL PETITION

TO THE HONORABLE Thomas H. Lindsey: Pursuant to Section 11020, California Elections Code, the undersigned registered qualified voters of Yorba Linda, in the State of California, hereby give notice that we are the proponents of a recall petition and that we intend to seek your recall and removal from the office of City Councilmember, in Yorba Linda, California and to demand election of a successor in that office.

The grounds for recall of Councilmember Thomas H. Lindsey are:

Broke his campaign pledge of low-density development.

a. Voted against an urgency ordinance, which would have placed a moratorium on high density development and that would help further a ballot measure to eliminate or reduce high-density housing sites that include 4-story buildings with heights up to 50 feet.

b. Refused to listen to concerned residents and deal harshly with the County regarding development of over 500 homes in fire sensitive land near the northeast corridor of the City.

c. Lindsey's vote to kill the high-density moratorium is an abandonment of his signed statement in his 2010 Contract with Yorba Linda, which pledged to voters that all infill development projects would be consistent with their existing and surrounding neighborhoods.

Is fiscally irresponsible and unethical.

a. Put the City at risk for a $19 million breach of contract lawsuit with the County and the Sheriffs Department in an ill-fated attempt to renegotiate Yorba Linda's police services contract with the Brea Police Department, after the police contract was signed and approved by both the City and County.

b. Participated in a public smear campaign of three fellow councilmembers, voting to publicly disclose confidential closed-session information used during the November 2012 election.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO CIRCULATE RECALL PETITION

TO THE HONORABLE Craig Young: Pursuant to Section 11020, California Elections Code, the undersigned registered qualified voters of Yorba Linda, in the State of California, hereby give notice that we are the proponents of a recall petition and that we intend to seek your recall and removal from the office of City Councilmember in Yorba Linda, California and to demand election of a successor in that office.

Betrayed the trust of Yorba Linda voters and his 4-year commitment to the community to serve on the city council.

a. Declared his candidacy for State Assembly in August 2013 within just 8 months of being sworn in for his first term as a city councilman. Ironically, his November 2012 campaign statement specifically stated he had no hidden agenda and no axe to grind.
