One dreary Sunday this winter Joan and I binged watched an old television program on Netflix.
Maybe you remember it: The West Wing.
In one episode, the main character was facing an uphill battle in his bid to be reelected president.
His opponent had crafted a ten-word position statement that resonated with many of the voters.
The president had a bevy of speech writers and strategists and the harder they worked the farther behind they fell in the polls.
That’s when someone asked,
“Mr. President, what are your ten words?”
Hollywood being Hollywood the president dismissed his staff, closed the door to the oval office and wrote a statement that spoke to his values and beliefs. All before the next commercial.
He won the election.
