Dear  ,

At Shades of Pink Foundation California, our mission is simple. We know that when women face exhausting chemotherapy and radiation therapy to fight breast cancer, they usually can no longer work. This loss of income happens at the same time that their medical bills skyrocket. Some women have insurance and savings and family members to rely on. Many others do not. The women most in  need of financial help are referred to us, and they need to know that someone cares. That's what SOPFCA does.

We would not be able to continue our mission to provide desperately needed financial assistance to San Diego women in active breast cancer treatment without your help. As we close out 2016 and begin looking forward to 2017, we want to give you a quick recap of where your gifts have been used this year and the difference your support has made to women in our community.

Sincerely,

Every Month Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October was truly amazing! We saw an outpouring of love from individuals and many businesses throughout our community. Fourteen businesses made the commitment to support our organization throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and they raised more than $10,000 in October.

While we are absolutely floored with this attention, it's important to recognize that breast cancer doesn't stop in October. Women are in need not just in October, but every month of the year. That is why SOPFCA will keep working, keep giving grants, and keep fundraising from January to December. We are a 365-day-a-year organization!
2016 Events

You attended a number of fun and successful events in 2016 and we were able to partner with fantastic local businesses who adopted our cause for their own independent fundraisers.

Early in the year, we kicked things off with Purse Bingo on April 28th. It was great fun, and some of our attendees left with very stylish new treasures. We read all of your surveys and look forward to improving the event when we host it next year. We are working on a finalizing our 2017 date. Thank you Linda Conover for your donation of pizza.

On June 3rd, we hosted Yoga and Happy Hour at the  Alexandria Fitness Center and then grabbed drinks at the Farmer & The Seahorse. Burning calories and getting limber was fun, but so was sipping a well-earned drink afterward. More than $700 was raised and donated.

Finally, on Sept. 30th, we hosted our Annual Wear Pink Cocktail Party as a big thank you to our donors, volunteers, and all the other amazing people who support our organization. This was a great chance to see old friends and make new ones! This year we were honored to have one of our grant recipients join us and Dr. Cheryl Olson as our guest speaker.

In addition to our big events, we would like to thank all of the organizations that took up our cause throughout the year and helped us raise money that will be going out in grants in 2017:

  • Brighton Collectibles, Escondido
  • Quality Marble & Granite
  • Poway Honda, Poway
  • Priority Public House, Encinitas
  • USD KKG, San Diego
  • Velofix San Diego
  • Kathryn Hopkins &Fern Boutique, Encinitas
  • Sheri Colosimo of Sweatworks & Mission Brewery, San Diego
  • Henry Schein, Magellan Insurance, North County Self Storage, Helms Brewing Company
  • And last but least our great friend Katie B. who has supported us from the beginning.

  • Age range of grant recipients: 29 - 84 years old
  • Our grants pay for: Rent, utilities, groceries, car insurance, gasoline, cell phone bills, compression sleeves, and more!
"I just wanted to let you know how much my family appreciates what your foundation is doing for us. This next month will be less stressful as our two biggest bills are being paid by your foundation." Allison

More Expanded Grants Next Year?

Thanks to our donors and a generous grant from Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) of Southern California, we were able to double the value of each grant we gave out in 2016. The women we assist are in desperate financial straits by the time we receive their grant applications. Often, they are months behind on bills and are making incredibly difficult decisions, like whether to pay rent or buy groceries for their family. The larger grants give them more breathing room and help us cover more bills so that they can focus on getting well and get back to being productive members of our community. Our goal is to maintain this level of giving throughout 2017.

"I've got tears. You don't know what a relief it will be to know we don't have to beg, borrow or steal to be able to take care of financial obligations." Suellen
There is Still Time to Give Hope in 2016

Are you looking to make some final year-end donations? Need a tax deduction? Your money could go three times farther when you donate to our " Give Hope Campaign."

Two anonymous donors have agreed to match our funds if we can raise $5,000. That means every dollar you give could be worth three...but only if we hit our goal. We have currently raised $3240.00, 64% of our goal. We're so close, and only need a little more to push us over. 100% of your donation will go directly to women in need in our community! Please share our Give Hope Campaign with your friends and loved ones during this season of giving.

"I look forward to the day when I can repay the generosity and incredible kindness that has been shown to me throughout my cancer journey."
