Last month, Scouts from Troop 54 in East Point, Georgia led the opening ceremonies for the dedication of the new Liberty Plaza at the Georgia State Capitol. On the ground of the plaza sits a replica of the Statue of Liberty that was donated to the state by the Atlanta Area Council in 1951.

In this moment it was clear to see how Scouting has impacted the Atlanta area for generations. 

Thank you for making the Scouting program in Atlanta as strong and relevant to today's youth as it has ever been. Because of your support, and the support of more than 10,000 adult volunteers, 2014 was an amazing year for our Scouts. 

• 634 young men earned their Eagle Scout rank. In doing so, they gave back 103,976 hours in service to our communities. 
• The Atlanta Area Council hired Jason Baldridge, the nation's first Safe Scouting Director.  In addition, we shared Scouting's industry-leading youth protection practices with 48 other youth serving agencies at the First Annual Youth Protection Symposium.
• 6,988 Scouts attended Bert Adams and Woodruff Scouts Camps this summer. 397 camp scholarships were awarded to help Scouts who would not have been able to afford camp on their own.
• Scouts earned 22,750 Merit Badges. In doing so, they developed skills that will help them in the future, and they broadened their experience to things include things you cannot find by only playing sports and video games.
