Good Earth Plant Company recently received this endorsement from our client at The Headquarters, Seaport Village.

"We have been fortunate to work with Good Earth Plants since November 2013. Good Earth's expertise of potted plants and drought tolerant plantscapes has created a beautiful environment at The Headquarters and we are excited to incorporate some of their creativity at Seaport Village. We truly appreciate Good Earth's vision and attention to detail in ongoing maintenance and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for Plantscaping Service."

Letter from the President: Living Art
Summer is winding down, the kids are off to sch Jim in Plants ool and we are already taking poinsettia orders.

Good Earth Plants is expanding our "living art" program beyond orchids, bromeliads and kalanchoes. Watch for the addition of new succulents, driftwood and stones to our flowering plant arrangements. These look fantastic on a reception desk and last many weeks.

Traditional poinsettias for the holidays are still available, and now is the time to consider your order. Please use the order form at this link.

I'm finding myself increasingly intrigued how our work integrating vegetation into buildings is playing a part with the overlapping areas of wellbeing, biophilia, and sustainability. I've always known that plants, flowers and nature are beautiful, but now more studies are emerging which find how plants contribute to our sense of happiness and peace, an increase in productivity, a decrease in absenteeism, and improved recovery time among hospital patients. Most importantly, the information is moving from a place of subjectivity to objectivity.

Our next open house/plant sale takes place Friday, October 16. Please come by and check out all of our living wall demonstrations and trials, and pick up some plants at ridiculous prices.

Until next time, be safe, share love and kindness, prosper and enjoy good health!
Warmest Regards,
Jim Mumford

Green Living Can Still Be Waterwise
As California heads into its fourth year of drought, we get asked a lot about how much water our plants use. There are different answers for the different applications. Our indoor plants use the least water, including our interior living walls. Jim Mumford's home is full of potted plants. With five trees, two dozen medium sized floor plants,15 small table top plants and a dozen flowering plants, he uses less than 100 gallons a month.

Seaport Village has been so impressed with how little water Good Earth Plants us es at the Old Police Headquarters, it asked us to take on caring for more of the entire landscape. We were able to cut back water use to just 80 gallons per week. How did we do it? We use a "water machine," a pressurized 25-gallon tank on wheels. No more dragging a water wasting hose all over the property (which is also a tripping hazard for visitors), and no more automated watering systems. Our technicians check each plant and water only as needed.

Even our spectacular outdoor living walls use very little water, as we build them primarily with succulents. Green roofs use the most water, but they offer the most in environmental benefits offsetting the consumption of water. Cooling down the building, decreasing the urban heat island effect, processing storm water and creating biodiversity are a few of the reasons that a green roof makes sense, even in times of drought.

Featured Project: Human Longevity, Inc., A Natural Fit

Earlier this year, Good Earth Plant Company was called in by McCarthy Building Companies' San Diego location to design and install a 200 square foot living wall at a brand new and innovative company in San Diego, Human Longevity, Incorporated (HLI).

We designed a sleek, modern living wall for HLI created to mimic natural shapes, colors and materials. Taking three days to complete, our finished living wall contains 317 jade pothos in the Wall of Life system.
HLI was so pleased, Good Earth Plants was asked to bring even more natural elements into its workplace. See the results here.
