Sabrina Spotlight!
Why We're HereIn response to your interest in the backstories of some of our special needs residents, we will have an occasional feature spotlighting some of our favorites. This month: Princess Sabrina Oberon!
We've had Sabrina since receiving a call that a 6-week old kitten was going to have to be put down at a nearby shelter, unless we could take her: she was hit by a car; her tail was broken in five places and would need to be amputated, and likely she'd be unable to walk again.

Of course we took her in. A kind and patient volunteer took her home and started kitten rehab for her problems both walking and eliminating (even making tiny custom diapers for many weeks!), until she was healed enough to join the rescue, where we continued on with massage and rehab. Our angel volunteer felt so badly about the kitten's woebegone appearance, she thought a fancy name would give her a boost, and so called her Princess Sabrina Oberon-- Sabrina for short.
We've had Sabrina now for six years. She's accompanied us through three locations and many other changes, but remains her sweet and playful self through it all.

Visitors often ask why our "Manx" has two water dishes, and we tell her story-- no, she was not born tail-less, and the last remnant of her rough beginning is that she prefers one bowl to drink from and one for pee!
Perhaps because of this quirk, Sabrina has yet to find a permanent home of her own, and we are happy to be that home for her, for as long as she will need it. Next time you are at the rescue, take a moment to give her cheeks a skritch (her favorite!) and say hi to our very special Princess.
