Work Hard, Play Hard at the 2018 Carlson 'Go West' User Conference
Carlson Software will host its biannual 'Go West' User Conference on April 9 through 11 at the Mission Valley Crowne Plaza in San Diego, California. The 2018 conference will offer a wide spectrum of courses covering fundamentals, new Carlson products, new features, and everything in between.
"As we put courses together for the 2018 User Conference, we poured over your feedback from past conferences. You wanted more options. We have added courses on CAD basics and have broadened the overall offerings to give you more and better choices," said host director Shane Gardner. "It was also clear that you wanted to know exactly what was going to be covered, at what level and with what solutions. Our course descriptions are structured to help you have all the blanks filled in. While we don't expect to match each individual's educational needs perfectly, we are striving to give enough options at enough levels to make sure you get your money's worth."
Registrants are able to select the courses they'd like to attend within the registration process. Sessions will not be separated into tracks so that attendees can freely explore different fields that might interest them. Fields include data collection/mobile, land surveying, civil engineering, construction, GIS, mining, machine control, hardware, and more.

Up Your Survey Game in 2018

Happy New Year!
As surveyors, this is a great time to review our work flow and methodologies and look for ways to improve so come spring we can hit the ground running, becoming even more profitable. Most every firm I speak with, no matter how good they think their "system" is, will say that they believe there is still room for improvement.
Yes, it's that time of year when we clean out our email inboxes, reorganize the file drawer, purchase new supplies, and in certain areas of the country, wait for the snow to end. As a matter of fact, sometimes I think the only ones who make money this time of year are the office supply companies.
But, it is also the time of year to start thinking about and gearing up for next spring. Surveying can be somewhat of a systematic process. The trick is to use that systematic approach to your advantage and not let it become something that locks you down to only one way of getting a job done or something that creates boredom and stifles professional growth.

Jennifer DiBona,
Lead Consultant of That CAD Girl
Jennifer is a long-time CAD consultant and trainer doing business as That CAD Girl. She is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Jennifer has a degree in surveying and spent about 15 years working as an engineering & surveying technician before leaving to become a Civil 3D Implementation Certified Expert (ICE) for an Autodesk reseller. Today, as That CAD Girl, she provides sales, support and training for Carlson, AutoCAD and IntelliCAD software and Carlson hardware and data collection.
Rick Ellis,
Rick has worked with and taught Civil/Survey CAD software since the mid-90s. He is the Author of several critically acclaimed books on AutoCAD Map 3D, Civil 3D and Carlson Software. He continues to
work on projects in a production environment, in addition to teaching classes to organizations both large and small to help them get the most out of their software investment.
