Young Farmer Gathering sparks new connections
BING is all about connecting the next generation of people inspired by biodynamics, so we are thrilled that over 70 people came together -- many traveling great distances -- for our Young Farmer Gathering at Angelic Organics Farm and Learning Center. The two-day event included a farm tour, young farmer panels, a delectable potluck dinner, a screening of the Greenhorns, two fantastic musical performances, and many fruitful conversations, as well as dramatic thunderstorms and a full moon! The greatest gift was meeting other enthusiastic young people and sharing our successes, challenges and inspiration. Read the full account on our blog...

BING welcomes our first intern! We are happy to introduce Christopher Chemsak, BING's first intern. Christopher will be working with us over the coming months to build on the success of our Young Farmer Gathering in the Midwest and organize a BING event in Oregon. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Christopher now resides in Oregon and is working in Salem as a school garden coordinator through FoodCorps, a brand new initiative of AmeriCorps and the National Farm to School Network. A recent graduate of University of North Carolina at Asheville, Christopher has a B.S. in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Human Ecology. Two years ago, he was introduced to Biodynamics and was immediately drawn to the broadening of our understanding of the farm as an ecosystem. Since then, he has been motivated to combine his interests in sustainable human habitats with his passion for teaching and mentoring children and he is extremely excited about the opportunity to do so regionally by working with BING.

Resources

Did you know you can listen to Rudolf Steiner's Agriculture Course on mp3? On his site Rudolf Steiner Audio, Dale Brunsvold has posted recordings of himself reading "Spiritual Foundations for the Renewal of Agriculture" as well as many of Steiner's other lectures and written work, all available to download free of charge. Thanks to Ben Wilson for the tip! Another great resource for newcomers to biodynamics (or anyone who wants to deepen their understanding) is the Oregon Biodynamic Group's online introduction to biodynamics class, which features seven chapters complete with illustrations. |
