Sunset Bridge at Hugh J. Gallen Overlook ~ Franconia Notch NH

When Mount Lafayette started to turn red the other night, it was a signal that this would be no ordinary sunset, so we headed to the closest place we knew with a view to the west.

We weren't the only one ones to show up at Sunset Bridge in Franconia Notch and as the sky was exploding in vibrant yellows and oranges above blue and purple mountains, more people came to stand and look.

Some of us took pictures, some talked with companions, but there came a moment when all was hushed, when the cameras stopped whirring and the conversation ceased and we could only look out in shared silence at the extraordinary twilight.

Sunrises, sunsets, moon beams, starshine and fireflies are magical in the White Mountains, so if you are looking for a way to light up your vacation, let us help you out.

Swing by our visitors' center, off exit 32 of Interstate 93 in North Woodstock, or you can call us at at 800-346-3687. Our website -- www.VisitWhiteMountains.com -- is also full of information.
