Nigel Nose-it-all returns
The EcoTarium, 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, invites you to explore the good, the bad and the downright ugly about how your body works with the opening of the exhibit, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. The exhibition uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to explore runny noses, body odor and other icky things that everyone experiences. Get to know Nigel Nose-it-All and learn all about how your nose functions, including allergies, sinuses, snot trivia, runny noses and more! Meet Burp Man - a larger than life cartoon character who drinks from a three-foot soda can to see how and why you burp from in inside perspective. Climb a wall of human 'skin' and get up close to pimples, warts, wounds. In conjunction with the exhibit, the EcoTarium will host Too Gross Tuesdays June 26th - August 28th at 12:30 p.m. offering you a chance to learn gross but fascinating stuff about humans and animals; and on Saturday, June 23rd will host an Arm Fart Contest - compete in three categories: loudest, fastest and most creative! Weaving our stories The Worcester Public Library, 3 Salem Square, Worcester, will host a story telling performance by fourth, fifth and sixth grade students of the Goddard School of Science & Technology - Weaving Our Stories - using as their only 'texts' their own original, hand woven tapestries on Wednesday, May 30th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Sponsored in conjunction with the SAORI Worcester Freestyle Weaving Studio and the Worcester Public Schools via a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. |
Spring has sprouted
Mark your calendars for one of the best plant sales in all of New England! Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, will host its annual Plant Sale - Sprouts! - on Saturday, June 2nd from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Browse a great selection of perennials, herbs & everlastings, shrubs and trees, annuals and vegetables. Also for sale will be Tower Hill souvenir plants-divisions from beautiful garden plants growing right at Tower Hill. Preview party opens at 8:30 a.m. with $35 admission; 10 a.m. members admission for free; and general public admission begins at 12 noon for $5 per car. Antique Car & Carriage Rally
When Old Sturbridge Village, 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, first opened in 1946, visitors toured the museum in their cars. To commemorate those early days, OSV will be showcasing pre-1946 automobiles during an Antique Car Rally on Saturday, June 2nd. Entrants include rare vehicles like a 1908 Locomobile, a 1912 Oakland Roadster, a 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost a 1922 Hupmobile, among others. See how early 20th century transporation compares to the early 19th century. The antique cars will be followed by OSV's first ever Antique Horse Drawn Carriage Rally on Sunday, June 3rd. Horses participating include a Morgan, an Arabian, two Norwegian Fjords and a Welsh Pony pulling several classic carriages from the 1890s including an original delivery wagon from the 1880s. Each rally set for 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., included with regular admission. Highlight will be a grand procession of the antique vehicles (cars at 3:30 on Saturday, carriages at 2 p.m. on Sunday) WOO Card holders save $5 off adult daytime admission. |

Great stART to spring!
stART on the Street's annual spring festival returns with one big change: a move to Worcester's Canal District! Don't miss as over 150 local artists and crafters take over Green Street, between Temple and Madison Streets, on Sunday, June 3rd from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., showing and selling their handmade wares. Also featured will be music groups from area schools, a car show, local non-profits, kids' activities, and a food court complete with vegan options. This is sure to be stART's most "urban" festival yet, with something to see in each alley and parking lot along the street. Many area businesses will also open their doors to join in the festivities. As always, stART is family friendly and admission is FREE to the public. Area street parking is available. WOO Card holders can swipe for Double WOO points.

Opa time!
For three days, be transported to Greece without ever leaving Worcester! Don't miss the 2012 Grecian Festival on Friday, June 1st - Sunday, June 3rd, a highlight of Worcester and Central Massachusetts for the last 36 years. It has grown to become among the finest and the largest festivals of New England, with attendance exceeding 25,000 people. During each of the festivals the Greek Community recognizes and celebrates our forefathers, Greek immigrants who came to Worcester to work and create a new life, and in doing so made lasting contributions to the political, economic and cultural development of Worcester. Enjoy great food, live music and dancing, children's activities, and more food! Festival runs Friday, June 1st 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, June 2nd 12 noon to midnight and Sunday, June 3rd 12 noon to 10 p.m. Admission just $1. |
Dramatic Cantata
Music Worcester invites you to experience the Worcester Chorus and Worcester Children's Chorus performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burrana at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester, on Sunday, June 3rd at 4 p.m. Sometimes called a dramatic cantata, the Carmina Burana is based upon a group of 13th century poems that were discovered in the Benedictine monastery of Beuren in Bavaria. The collection of music is full of humor and intensity, both ribald and romantic, celebrating, win, women, song, spring and the fickleness of fate. The Mansion of Happiness Can the answers to life's questions be found in the collections of the American Antiquarian Society? What can history answer and what can it only ask? Senior spectacular The Worcester Chamber Music Society will perform a Senior Outreach Concert on Thursday, June 7th from 7:30-9 p.m. at The Willows at Worcester, 101 Barry Road, Worcester. Take it to the Curator Icon specialist Frank Ford will be at the Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union Street, Clinton, on Friday, June 1st, to evaluate region, date and subject matter of guests icons. An avid collector of Russian icons since the mid 1970s, Ford has trained at the MFA in Boston and under well known icon expert Fr. Panteleimon of the Abbot of Holy Transfiguration Monastery of Brookline. Objects will be viewed on a walk-in, first-come, first served basis between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Cost $7 per object. Frat party The Worcester Historical Museum and College of the Holy Cross are teaming up to host a frat party of sorts. On Thursday June 7th from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the museum's Fletcher Auditorium, 30 Elm Street, Worcester, don't miss Fraternity: A Discussion with Author Diane Brady and Father John Brooks. After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968, a Catholic priest and then theology professor at Holy Cross, Father Brooks sought out young black men to integrate into the then, all-white school. Among the 20 young men he found were a future Supreme Court justice, a Pulitzer Prize winner and one of the most successful defense attorneys in the country. Author Diane Brady chronicles the stories of five of those young men in her book Fraternity. After the discussion, Father Brooks and Ms. Brady will be available to sign copies of the book. Greater Worcester Opera invites you to share an evening with a hot blooded gypsy - Carmen!
