Brown Bag finale
Dynamic jazz musician Dan Moretti will round out the Spring Brown Bag Concert Series TODAY, Wednesday, April 4th at 12 noon at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester, bringing his classical to funk and Latin jazz sounds. Having performed and recorded with artists across the musical spectrum, including Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and the Crusaders among others, this is one show you don't want to miss! Produced by Mechanics Hall and WICN Radio, the concert will be streamed live online if you can't make it in person. Concert begins at 12 noon, admission is FREE. Pottery Preview
The Pottery Invitational is back at the Worcester Center for Crafts, 25 Sagamore Road, Worcester, and here's you chance to see it first! The Center will host a Preview Exhibition Opening Reception on Thursday, April 5th from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Curated by D. Hayne Bayless and Hannah Niswonger, the Invitational features work for sale by 21 renowned and nationally recognized New England Potters. Join the American Antiquarian Society, 185 Salisbury Street, Worcester, on Thursday, April 5th 7:30-9 p.m. to find out. AAS will host Gordon S. Wood, Alva O. Way University Professor Emeritus at Brown University and 1992 Pulitzer Prize winner, for a discussion of his most recent book, The Purposes of the Past: Reflections on the Use of History. Brew Woo 2 Worcester's 2nd Annual Craft Beer Festival Brew Woo is set to take place on Saturday, April 7th 2 - 9 p.m. in the DCU Center Convention Center, 50 Foster Street, Worcester. The festival will feature more than thirty breweries with craft beers and local brews, live music - featuring Ariband, Pete Towler, Bobby Morin, My Silent Bravery, and The Stone Clovers, a Bar-BREW-Que corner, along with traditional concessions. Taking it to the street! Worcester Windows Community Gallery will host an Opening Reception on Thursday, April 12th from 5-7 p.m. at The Hanover Theatre, 2 Southbridge Street, Worcester. Worcester artist Terri Priest will open the evening with a brief talk, followed by a walking tour of the Worcester Windows Gallery footprint, encompassing Franklin, Front, Portland and Main Streets, concluding at the City Hall Gallery, 455 Main Street, Worcester, where the Worcester Alliance of Photographers will be showcasing an exhibition entitled The People of Worcester County, featuring photography work of 25 local photographers. Taking it to the Street, curated by Howard McGinn and Anne Seuthe, features works by 39 artists in painting, sculpture, drawing and photography. Admission to the opening reception is free. New Play Festival
Clark University's Theatre Program is an exciting generator of new works at many levels. the 2012 New Play Festival is a great demonstration of that work - producing works by nine student playwrights (3 readings, 6 full productions) on consecutive nights, Wednesdays - Saturdays, Apil 11th - 28th from 7:30 -9:30 p.m. in Michelson Theater, 950 Main Street, Worcester. Presentations to include Absolution by Alexandra Tennant, directed by Christine Dunant; And Likewise by Hannah Yukon, directed by Danny Zeliger; Jet Boy/Jet Girl by Alex Kump, directed by Danny Balel; The Greatest Biblical Story Ever Told by Michelle Houle, directed by Chelsea Long; You Can't Live With Em, You Can't Live With Em by Shauna Noone, directed by Hannah Yukon; and Slanted & Enchanted by Thad Kelly, directed by Maria Anderson. Production and development of these works facilitated by Gino DiIorio, theatre program director, and two professional dramaturgs, Erica Nagel and Jeff Zinn. Goodnight Worcester Enjoy nature, painting and reading with local author Jackie Penny at Mass Audubon Broad Meadow Brook, 414 Massasoit Road, Worcester on Saturday, April 14th from 1-4 p.m. Penny's 30 page, full color book Goodnight Worcester, takes youngsters on a journey through the City of seven hills with stops along the way at some of Worcester's most beloved places and spaces! Street Beat
Celebrate National Poetry Month along with the Worcester County Poetry Association at its Street Beat Poetry Thursday, on Thursday, April 12th from 7-9 p.m. at Vasa Hall, 1 Ekman Street, Worcester. Special featured poet and write will be Keith Vezeau, who has taught writing at the Worcester Art Museum and Quinsigamond Community College, as well as other endeavors as a full time archivist. Open mic precedes the feature as well as a break to enjoy homemade baked goods and coffee on the house. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Hat passed to support feature/venue. |

BSO Community Concert The Boston Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players will perform a FREE community chamber concert at Tuckerman Hall, 10 Tuckerman Street, Worcester, on Sunday, April 15th from 3-4:30 p.m. Performers will include Thomas Siders and Michael Martin, trumpet; Jason Snider, horn; Stephen Lange, trombone; and Michael Roylance, tuba. The program will include works by Shostakovich, Ewald, Berezowsky and Lutoslawski. Complimentary coffee and dessert will follow. Although admission is free, advanced reservations required. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Secrets of Moscow Kremlin In conjunction with its current exhibition Maps: Pathways to Russia, the Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union Street, Clinton, will host traditional artist and lecturer Marina Forbes for storytelling and hands-on workshops on Saturday, April 14th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and again on Thursday, April 19th from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Enjoy a fascinating story for the whole family then create your own unique piece of art in an interactive hands-on workshop using different painting techniques and acrylic paints on your choice of pre-designed surfaces inspired by beautiful Kremlin scenery.
