Explore Abby's Family Farm 

 

The Worcester Women's History Project invites you to meet the historic family of Abby Kelley Foster as portrayed by the Lydick family while touring the house and grounds of Liberty Farm, 116  Mower Street, Worcester, a National Historic Landmark on Thursday May 19th from 5-8 p.m. Additionally, learn about the Underground Railroad with Park Ranger Chuck Arning and hear 'Mum Bett', a female slave, tell how she won her freedom. Try your hand writing with a quill pen, stitching a quilt square and playing with 19th century toys. Enjoy light refreshments and Liberty music. Suggested donation $5, children admitted free. Rain date will be Friday, May 20th.

This event is in preparation for upcoming celebration on October 1, 2011 when Abby Kelley Foster is being inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame and on October 22nd, into the National Abolition Hall of Fame.

The EcoTarium's, 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, popular Tree Canopy Walkway opens next weekend on Saturday, May 28 and will be open Saturdays and Sundays until June 26. Kids and adults, come experience what it's like to walk at the tops of the trees-- or be a treetop scientist! Explore firsthand what's living up there and investigate the different kinds of trees that make up EcoTarium's forest. End your adventure by zipping to the forest floor in our comfy (and secure) chair harness. Timed tickets are sold for each 1/2 hr between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opens for daily access on June 28. Tree Canopy admission is $10 plus museum admission. WOO Card subscribers get $2 off adult admission.

Wool Days at OSVWool Days

It'll be annual haircut day for the sheep at Old Sturbridge Village, 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, during Wool Days throughout Memorial Day Weekend, May 28th - 30th. Farmers will shear the sheep and OSV costumed historians will demonstrate the entire wool textile process, from scouring and carding the wool to spinning, dyeing, knitting and weaving the handspun wool yarn. Also enjoy sheep herding demonstrations, knitting for American soldiers, hands on wool dyeing, and more. Music Worcester hosts The Worcester ChorusThe Southern Cross
 
Celebrate that great constellation of stars visible from the southern hemisphere along with The Worcester Chorus when Music Worcester hosts its final choral concert of the season on Friday, June 3rd at 8p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 90 Main Street, Worcester. Museum of Russian IconsExploring Sanctity
 
The Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union Street, Clinton, is now showing an exhibition of twenty-four icons from the museum collection that illustrate the unique and iconoclastic journeys of ordinary people to religious sanctity, Exploring Sanctity: Paths to Sainthood Unveiled. The exhibition emphasizes the wide ranging paths to sainthood and the diverse backgrounds of the saints portrayed. As many of the saints in the exhibition are female, it also explores the role of women in the early Orthodox Church. The Museum is now open late on Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. with free docent tours at 6 p.m. Exploring Sanctity on exhibit through September 3rd.
