Top 10 Global Risks - One of Them is "Yuuuge"

In this edition of 5 Minutes for Business, Hendrik Brakel, Senior Director, Economic, Financial and Tax Policy, looks at the top 10 global risks to the economy and the trouble they could spell for Canada.

From the Brexit being followed by a Eurozone break-up to the rising threat of jihadi terrorism destabilizing the global economy, there are multiple threats that could affect Canada. The most surprising, though, comes from our neighbours to the south: Donald Trump could win the U.S. presidential election!

So what does this mean for Canada? What other threats do we need to watch out for? How will this affect you?

Post-Secondary Institutions Need to do a Better Job at Arming Graduates With Employability Skills - Conference Board of Canada

Despite Canada having one of the highest levels of educational attainment in the world, employers often voice concerns about a lack of skills among recent graduates.
As a new class of post-secondary graduates prepares to enter the world of work, a new Conference Board of Canada report suggests that Canadian post-secondary institutions need to do a better job at matching their education programs to labour market needs.

MP Jamie Schmale looking for public input on Bill C-14, The Medical Assistance in Dying Act

In 2015, the Supreme Court of Canada had a unanimous ruling that gave the government a deadline to create legislation on physician-assisted dying. Bill C-14 would change the Criminal Code so that: physicians, nurse practitioners - and those who help them - can provide assistance to die to eligible patients without the risk of being charged.

Each household in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock should receive a copy by mail of the constituency referendum publication over the next few weeks. Included are arguments for both sides of this issue, a link where constituents can go to get help with further research and four ballots.

Jamie Schmale says he is asking the people in his riding how they want him to vote on Bill C-14.
