Basin 13 Public Meeting - December 7
H-GAC invites stakeholders to discuss bacteria reduction options for the
Brazos-Colorado Coastal Basin (Basin 13) from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, December 7, at
Wharton County Public Library-Main Branch,
1920 North Fulton,
Wharton
.
The Basin 13 project is a multi-year process to improve the quality of waterways, specifically reducing bacteria levels
in Caney Creek Tidal, Linnville Bayou, and Caney Creek Above Tidal.
During this meeting, participants will discuss options for developing a voluntary bacteria reduction plan and begin identifying stakeholders for a coordination committee to guide this effort.

West For Watersheds Partnership Meeting -
December 12
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and H-GAC will hold a public meeting of the
West Fork Watersheds Partnership, an effort to address water quality issues in the West Fork of the San Jacinto River and Lake Creek.
The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, December 12, at the Conroe Library, 104 Interstate 45N, Conroe.
Participants will discuss how to put in place effective solutions for reducing bacteria in the watershed.
The meeting is open to the public
. Light refreshments will be served.

NRCS Funding Webinar - January 4, 2018
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides a variety of post-Harvey resources for agricultural producers and municipal organizations, ranging from technical assistance to financial support for a variety of production recovery, land conservation, and erosion mitigation projects.
H-GAC will host a webinar from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, January 4, about three NRCS programs. NRCS representatives will discuss details of each program, application criteria, and other key information for applicants.

Regional Recycling Roundtable - February 22, 2018
Save the date for the next
Regional Recycling Roundtable from 10 a.m. to noon
Wednesday, February 22, 2018, at H-GAC Conference Room A, Second Floor.
Tentative topics will be "How to Hold a Repair Café" and "Mining Recycled Electronics for Parts." Registration will open in January.
H-GAC hosts quarterly Regional Recycling Roundtables to promote recycling and waste reduction and provide a forum for discussion about recycling issues within the region.

25th Trash Bash - March 24, 2018
Thousands of
volunteers at more than a dozen locations in the Galveston Bay watershed will help clean up local waterways.
Volunteers get supplies, t-shirts, lunch, and chances to win prizes.
An environmental exhibit area offers information about water quality issues and programs.

The 2045 Regional Transportation Plan: An Early Introduction
H-GAC projects nearly 11 million people will live in the region by 2045.
Over the next few months, H-GAC will initiate conversations about the region's mobility needs and actively engage the public for feedback about what the community envisions for the future. Take Care of Texas Video Contest
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) invites children in grades six through twelve to enter the second-annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest. Student videos should be 30 seconds long and portray positive ways Texans can help keep air and water clean, conserve water and energy, or reduce waste. The contest deadline is Friday, December 15, and the public will have the opportunity to pick their favorite videos January 11 through 25, 2018. A panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from Waste Management Texas will choose the first, second, and third place winners from each of the grade groups. Winners will be announced February 20, 2018.
Harris County Community Health Survey
Residents are asked to share their opinions on health in Harris County by
completing a survey by
Friday, December 22. Participants will be entered for a drawing for a $100 gift card. Results of the survey will be used by Harris County Public Health to inform health improvement plans for the county. For more information, contact

Texas Water Development Board Texas Rain Catcher Awards
The Texas Water Development Board is seeking nominations for the
Texas Rain Catcher Awards. The awards are a rainwater harvesting competition and recognition program to promote the technology, educate the public, and recognize excellence in the application of rainwater harvesting systems in Texas. The competition is open to all individuals, companies, organizations, municipalities, and other local and state governmental entities in Texas. The submission deadline is

Scenic City Certification Program
The
Scenic City Certification Program
, a project of Scenic Texas in cooperation with H-GAC, Texas Municipal League, and several additional partners, will begin accepting applications for 2018 soon. The program supplies cities an objective review of existing infrastructure ordinances for public roadways and public spaces, evaluated against the Scenic City model.

Disaster Recovery Financial Assistance Workshop
The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) will hold a financial assistance workshop focused on disaster recovery for water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, December 5, at H-GAC Conference Room B, Second Floor. The TWDB outreach team, regional team personnel, and program coordinators will discuss specific projects and answer questions. College and University Recycling Coalition 2017 Webinar Series
City Efficiency Leadership Council
The South-central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource (SPEER), in collaboration with the State Energy Conservation Office and Houston Advanced Research Center, is hosting the City Efficiency Leadership Council meeting for small and mid-sized cities in the Houston-Galveston region. The meeting will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday, December 13, at H-GAC, Conference Room D, Second Floor. Lunch will be provided. Attendance is limited to
cities and other public agencies (including public schools).

Audubon Christmas Bird Count
The
Audubon Christmas Bird Count is
December 14 through
January 5 each year. Organized by the National Audubon Society, this global, all- volunteer effort collects data on local bird populations. Individual counts are open to birders of all levels, and there is no fee to participate. Several
events are scheduled across the region.
Texas Watershed Steward Workshop
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, and H-GAC will host a
Texas Watershed Steward workshop from 1 to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Don McLeod Recreation Center, 10717 Langston Drive, Mont Belvieu. The workshop will include a discussion of watershed systems, types and sources of water pollution, and ways to improve and protect water quality. The Citizens' Environmental Coalition will host the
Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour on
January 24 and 25, 2018. The two-night event will be at Rice University Media Center, 2030 University Blvd., Houston.

Notice of Funding Availability
The (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program provides funding to support community-based organizations in their efforts to collaborate and partner with local stakeholder groups (e.g., local businesses and industry, local government, medical providers, and academia) as they develop and implement solutions that address environmental or public health issues for underserved communities.
Eligible projects must demonstrate use of the EJCPS Model to support their collaborative efforts during the project period. Applying organizations should have a direct connection to the underserved community impacted by the environmental harms and risks detailed in the workplan.
Proposal packages must be submitted through
Grants.gov by
Friday, February 16, 2018.
