Thistle Funspiel
The Thistle Funspiel took place on Saturday November 26, 2016. We were happy to have a lot of new faces come out to the Thistle for the very first time. The Funspiel also brought out some of the local community to come and give our sport a try for the very first time as well. It was fun day with a lot of laughter out on the ice and in our Thistle Patch. Watch for our next Funspiel in 2017.

On December 2-4, 2016 we held the 35th Annual Cliff Fender Senior Open & 2nd Annual Thistle Men's Bonspiel. Both bonspiels had a full compliment of teams and was tremendous successful weekend in every aspect: from the team support, the fun Taco Bar Saturday dinner, curling ice conditions, and the super service by the lounge staff. There was some terrific curling with superb shot making especially on the championship Sunday. Congratulations to our two winning teams. Team Wade White in the Senior event and Team Tyler Pfeiffer in the Men's event.

Curling Tips: Safety First
Warm up properly before a game of curling, as this greatly reduces the risk of strain or stretch injury.

Do not step over stones and always step onto the ice with your gripper foot first.

After delivering a stone, wait until you have stopped sliding forward before attempting to stand up, and then rise on your gripper foot - not your slider foot.

Stay off the walkways while curling. While we try to keep these walkways as uncluttered and as clean as possible due to limited space we are forced to store many pieces of ice maintenance equipment on the walkway. These at times can be a tripping hazard if you are distracted by your game on the ice.
