August 24, 2017
  Greetings!
It's been a great week at Westfield! We began the week with the excitement of viewing the solar eclipse, giving our students opportunity to see first-hand what they are learning in the classroom and, most of all, to see God's handiwork. Our students are working hard in the classroom and on the athletic field as our Middle School football team kicks off its season tonight and our cross country teams prepare for their first meet next week. Campus improvements are continuing in our gymnasium, Hornets' Nest Pavilion, and wrestling room in the gymnatorium.
Please be reminded about driving safely on campus. Your help is appreciated in keeping our students, faculty, staff, and visitors safe. We ask that you follow these guidelines to help traffic move as safely and efficiently as possible:

  • Do not use cell phones when driving on campus.
  • Drive slowly and watch for children at all times.
  • Do not drop-off students in a parking lot and allow them to walk across carline traffic unescorted.
  • Do not park in the Turnaround, Carline and Drop-off Areas
  • Do not enter the bus loading/drop-off zone at any time.

Don't forget to stop by Westfield this Saturday afternoon to drive a Ford and raise money for our school! Funds raised through Drive4URSchool will go toward this year's Annual Fund campaign. #It's great to be a Westfield Hornet! #wearewestfield
Westfield Watches the Eclipse
Westfield students, faculty, and families gathered in the Quad to view the solar eclipse while enjoying music, refreshments, and fellowship for the Eclipse Party 2017! Thank you to our Westfield Family Organization (WFO) volunteers Lydia Shelton, Jennifer Lewis, and Laura Carroll for setting up refreshments and preparing hundreds of solar glasses for our Lower School students. Thank you also to Dr. Grady Knight for an interactive lesson about solar eclipses and to our faculty and students for providing karaoke entertainment! Click here to watch the video of our students preparing to watch the eclipse! #westfieldwatchestheeclipse
Upper School students in Mr. Craig Howe's Environmental Science classes traveled to view the eclipse in the path of totality at Yonah Mountain Campground in Cleveland, Georgia. The students spent Sunday tubing on the Chattahoochee River in Helen and hiking to the upper and lower falls of DeSoto Falls. Monday, they hiked Yonah Mountain (elevation 3,166 ft and the hike included a 1,500 ft. elevation gain) to view the eclipse in totality. Students learned about the Chattahoochee watershed which provides drinking water to metro Atlanta and how waterfalls are major erosion agents. Sleeping in tents, they also gained experience in the outdoors by camping and hiking. "The trip could not have gone any smoother," said Mr. Howe. "The kids were spectacular and were positive the whole time. And seeing the total eclipse was an incredibly wonderful experience that mesmerized us all. It only lasted two minutes, but it was special." Thank you to Mr. Howe and the parent chaperones for making this trip such a great learning experience outside of the classroom for our students. #westfieldwatchestheeclipse

Learning Math Collaboratively
Sixth graders in Mrs. Michele Walton's math class tackled a tough lesson on place values by collaborating together outside the classroom. The students were learning to move from standard form (numerical) to expanded form (word) using the powers of ten. What a great way to grasp math concepts! #sixthgraders #educationofmindandheart #collaboration
