LuncheonJanuary Luncheon: Involving Board Members in Fundraising - from Day 1
Kathy Wright
Thursday, January 12, 2017 // 11:30am - 1:150pm
Tulsa Garden Center

"Our board won't help with raising money. What should we do?"
"How can we get board members more involved with fundraising?"
These questions are often heard when nonprofit leaders gather. Frustration is evident as staff members see the wasted potential of board members underperforming in their fundraising role. Board members pay lip service to their involvement in fundraising but don't really know how to best help and past experience makes them think of fundraising as "hitting up" their friends.
Many times, the disconnect between staff and board is caused by mismatched expectations, incomplete communication and fear of the unknown. By engaging and equipping board members early in their board service, nonprofit organizations will benefit by seeing increased participation by board members in fundraising, opportunities to connect with new donors and more money raised. Kathy shows us an easy process to take your board from disengaged with fundraising to contributing at their highest level of involvement.

Dear AFP of Eastern Oklahoma Chapter Professionals and Friends:

Happy New Year!  I know that 2017 will be a wonderful year for your chapter.  I look forward to serving as this year's President and have the fullest confidence that your chapter will be led by a wonderful and committed board of directors.

I am excited to mention a couple of programs that we will be placing strong emphasis on this year.  Both of these programs highlight and build our profession through educational networking opportunities.  Our Small Networking Series will be spearheaded by Allison Walden, our chapter's past-president. These small group sessions will be held quarterly, beginning this month on January 17th from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  These small group meetings are member-only discussions and based on fundraising and nonprofit management topics that are relevant to you.  I want to encourage you to attend.  You are welcome to sign up for just one of the sessions or you can attend all four!  Please sign up today by visiting our chapter website and registering.

MentorSeeking 2017 Mentors
As we start the new year for our AFP Chapter, we can always use a little help from our friends. Whether you are new our chapter or a seasoned professional, we are seeking mentors to help serve those chapter members who are needing a little advice, or a person to bounce ideas or a question or two off of.  We don't want this to be a time consuming role, but more of a sharing of ideas and knowledge.  If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please contact Tom Taylor, VP of Mentoring by email. Please provide the following information in your email: Your name, email address, phone number and 2 or 3 professional skills that you think may be of benefit to our chapter!  We'll ask for mentees after our AFP Board retreat and match you all up!
